Print Settings for 0.8 nozzle

Hello there,

I am using my prusa mk2s to print inserts for board games. They are basically boxes in different shapes, that almost only consist of 0.8mm thin walls. Today I am printing them with a 0.4 nozzle. As quality is not that important in this case, and to save some time, I would like to use a 0.8 nozzle.
I have already bought one, but wasn't able to find any print settings for it. I tried something by myself, and the "floor" was okay, but there were no walls, only a few string.

I am using Slic3R and would by thankful for any help!

Thank you!

Re: Print Settings for 0.8 nozzle

It sounds really obvious, but you did change the nozzle size in slic3rPE didn't you? How much did you reduce the speeds to compensate for the larger volume of filament you are asking the machine to melt? How much did you reduce retraction?

I hope someone on here has experience with the 0.8 nozzle and can answer definitively, but just in case not it may be an idea to post the trial settings you used.

Re: Print Settings for 0.8 nozzle

Hello and thanks for your help,

well I can't remember exactly which settings I tried, but I will do my best to remember:

I took the "0.6 nozzle"-setting from Slic3r and saved it under a new name. I then changed the nozzle size from 0.6 to 0.8 and in the "advanced" tab (hope the name is correct) I changed all the different widths (Perimeters, infill, etc.) from 0.6 to 0.8. I think that was all.

Like I said, the floor of the box I tested, looked okayish. But the walls were just a couple of filament worms lying in no apparent order all over the floor. While the floor was kind of solid, it also looked liked there was far less filament than needed for the walls.

What layer height did you use ?
I go for 75% with my 0.6 nozzle. = .45 maximum layer height. This works fine for me.

There is a user on the Prusa 3D Printer Owners group who has been down the 0.8mm nozzle path. If you are not a member you might join and post there to see if he can help you.

Have you considdered using the 0.4 mm nozzle and setting the outer perimeter extrusion width to 0.8mm?
