[Porting firmware 3.70 RC1] 7x7 MBL to Mk2s
In the MK3 section I asked if it was possible to porting 7x7 mesh bed levelling on the MK2s.
The user holger.s3 answered me directly with a port of his entire 3.70 RC1 firmware
Attention, it has never been tested, so if you are not an expert, do not flash!.

Is not the magnetic heated bed with steel sheet plates necessary for this to run properly?

I don't know, I created this discussion just in the hope that some expert will help us understand.
I have a mk3 so I can't do any tests myself

The Mk2 firmware relies on 9 copper pads etched on the PCB for levelling.
Attempting to level using the heater PCB tracks may be a very bad idea,
So if anyone decides to try, I wish them a whole load of luck 😉

Let's summarize: Someone just compiled the new firmware for MK2 and either this person or anyone else tested it on the real machine.
Sorry guys but from "it compiles" to "it makes sense" to "it works" to "it works in most cases" is a very long way to go. Offering this firmware version to wider audience doesn't make sense and I highly recommend everybody not to try it.

If you had the opportunity to read the original discussion; since I and other users have really enjoyed the new 7x7 MBL, I opened a discussion asking if this functionality could also be performed on the mk2s firmware whose development is stopped.
I repeat, neither I nor the user who compiled the firmware would like to encourage to test a "potentially dangerous" firmware.
I opened this thread just to discuss them, and above all, because for me who am totally inexpert of coding,it seemed too simple to port on mk2s a year of firmware(mk3) development so simply.
I hope that some advanced and expert code users can tell us if it is possible or not.

I did, that's why I answered. You asked for this feature and holger compiled the firmware. Both of you don't own MK2. There are no information what exactly was done to the firmware in order to make it work.
A discussion about a port should start IMHO with a lot of information and description about the process. Right now nobody can really tell if it's a good attempt or just a shot in the blue. There must be a reason why PR is not doing that. To understand that would be my first step.

I built firmware 3.7.1 using the official 3.7.1 source and installed it on my MK2. It has been working alright over 10 days.

I ported MK3 firmware to my MK2S Bear Upgraded Prusa that uses an Arduino RAMPS board.

I modified my MK2s with rare magnets under the PCB, removed the pei sheet from the PCB, made a metal sheet (as the MK3) myself, placed a PEI sheet on it, and works great. Combined with the gussner firmware version I can easily level my bed.
For calibrating (skew, etc) I remove the metal sheet and the pinda is looking for the 9 copper places in the PCB. If this calibration (9 points) stays the same in the firmware, and added with the Z leveling with 7 x 7, that would be great.

I built firmware 3.7.1 using the official 3.7.1 source and installed it on my MK2. It has been working alright over 10 days.
Which features are you able to use from that firmware that weren't already on the last official MK2/MK2S firmware?
