PINDA failure

I've just gone to start a print and the nozzle crashed into the bed at the start of the calibration process. The printer had completed a print successfully only a hour previously. From the looks of things, it's the PINDA probe not triggering. I've tried the end stops check via the menu and the z-point doesn't trigger when presenting a steel scraper (or any other bits of metal I've tried). The cable appears firmly plugged into the board. There's no light on the probe.

Is this likely to be the probe itself, i.e. I need a new one, or could it be something else. Where can I get a new one?

Re: PINDA failure

Good afternoon Jack

the Pinda should be illuminated most of the time, with the LED extinguishing when metal is sensed...

I suspect your pinda cable has a fractured conductor in it...

Have a word with Chat, on the eshop page... they may replace under warranty.

after that, you could consider replacing the three wires in the cable, putting a joint on the stationary section of the X carriage behind the smooth rails, and a second joint inside the rambo box. I suggest replacing all three wires, because, if one has fractured, the others won't be far behind!

I would recommend flexible silicone wire and heat shrink tubing, whit soldered joints. however I have to admit that I did a very makeshift repair on my mk3, using the wire off an old microusb cable, and bodge tape to cover the joints... can't remember if I just twisted the wires together, or actually soldered them... that was months ago... I have a new pinda, and am awaiting my MMUv2 upgrade, so delaying final repair, till then, if I can get away with it!

I try to make safe suggestions,You should understand the context and ensure you are happy that they are safe before attempting to apply my suggestions, what you do, is YOUR responsibility. Location Halifax UK

Re: PINDA failure

Hi Joan, thanks. I doubt it'll be covered by warranty, it's two years old now (so easily in the region where flexing cables will start to break!). I'll try replacing the cables but I'm not seeing any life when "fiddling" with the cable that I'd usually expect with a break. If it needs a new Pinda, where can I get one? I've seen "replacements" online but none seem to be what's used on the Prusa original and many seem to have so-so reviews...
