extruder 'clicking' and grinding down PLA

MK2S

I'm having an issue of the extruder making a clicking sound like it was extruding PLA too fast.

I've tried tightening the retention screws, loosening them, etc.

After a few dozen clicks or so, it's enough to grid a flat spot in the filament and stop feeding entirely.

The printed parts (partials or rarely a complete part) do not look over extruded.

Any thoughts on a fix?

Check your printing temperature and speed. If the combination is not right for the particular roll of filament they could cause this.

Ive gone clear up to the top (220) of the filaments range and set the print speed at 45.

Sounds like its time to check for clogs.

The print starts full flow, doubt it’s a spontaneous mid-print clog. It’s like the steps per mm are off but it never over extrudes.

It feels like the filament isn’t hot enough, but it’s pretty hot!

Do some cold-pulls or better still, change the nozzle.

If you still have the problem, then re-post.
