XYZ failed, please consult manual
I recently flashed my printer (which I bought prebuilt over two years ago and which has been printing great up until today) with the newest firmware.
I then tired to calibrate xyz. it went through three iterations of the first four points then displayed this message: xyz failed. please consult manual. the manual has almost no information on this error. It says to check that the frame is correctly assembeled, but I know I didn't build it myself and it was printing fine yesterday. I tried lowering the PINDA probe, but I got the same error. It will pass mesh bed leveling but the nozzle touches the build plate on the points 4-6 , pressing down on the heatbed itself. I tried running first level calibration but the extruder is so low that it won't let any filament come out. I tried reflashing, turning it on and off again and just printing as if it works. I've spent over 5 hours trying to trouble shoot it and I still don't know what's wrong.
If anyone could help, that would be great because I'm trying to use it to print a Halloween costume.

If the nozzle it hitting the bed, check that the PINDA is working.
Also, did you do a full reset with the clear all data option?
ps: It might be worth flashing whichever firmware you had installed prior to 3.8; newer is not always better.

I did check that the PINDA probe was working by looking in show endstops. It does change from 0 to 1 when I put a spatula beneath it.

Hi,
I know it's an old post, but I got the same problem yesterday.
Changed the PEI and decided to run a new XYZ calibration. Calibration points 1-4 went fine and so did the first of the following 9 points: On number 8 (middle back) the nozzle crashed into the (new!) PEI. Calibration reset done, nozzle/PINDA height measured and PINDA triggers as it should (show endstops z: 0-1).
My Mk2S was delivered and initially calibrated with FW 3.1.0, but later updated with 3.2.2 RC1 and now 3.2.3.
@jackf22: Did you solve this?
I haven't tried a roll-back to FW 3.1.0 yet, but that is my next (last?) idea.

Re-check Pinda is not angled in the holder and recalibrate the nozzle to Pinda height. That should solve the problem.

The PINDA is perfectly aligned and at height nozzle +0.85 mm.
Checking endstops towards the bed also works as it should:
All calibration bedpoints trigger the PINDA well before the nozzle touches the bed.
Improving calibration works for the first 7 points, but at number 8 it crashes into the bed - with PINDA perfectly centered in the circle.

You have me confused now - there is no circle at number 8 - bed centre rear. Can you adjust the bed position using Settings | Move axis to where it is failing and check the neon on top of Pinda is lit, and that it goes out when you pass a metal object under the probe? It could be a broken cable that only shows in that location.

Oh yes, you're right - there's no printed circle. I was thinking of the circular metal pad that can be seen on the bed.
I can run mesh bed leveling without a problem and it "beep-beep-beeps" as it should on all 9 positions. Made a few first layer calibrations yesterday too and I could get it to work as it should. Tried three different FW's (3.1.0, 3.2.2 RC1 and 3.2.3) and no difference.
I did however notice a small noise from the Y stepper during XYZ calibration when the bed is moved to the very front (PINDA at the rear), like wanting to go just a few steps further. Can't find any mechanical interference or filament debris.
So basically it's "only" the XYZ calibration that doesn't work as it should. I'm really puzzled why it decides to crash into the bed, when the PINDA detects as it should.
