Which hotend heater cartridge is 12v and which one is 24v?

Which hotend heater cartridge is 12v and which one is 24v?

I own both the MK2S and the MK3S and have to replace the heater cartridge of the MK2S.

I have 2 spare cartridges but do not know which is one the 12v and which one is the 24v. So most probably a very stupid question but how can I measure or otherwise find out which is the correct cartridge?

I had a look to the eshop, but I can't find both of them.

So I can only help with this:

  1. I would think that both cartridges have the same power - I think it is about P = 40W for both. If so you can measure the resistance (R measured in Ohm) of the cartridge.
  2. P = U * I ==> I = P / U; R = U / I = U / ( P / U ) = U² / P
    (with I as current in Amper)
  3. 12V cartridge:
    R = 12² / 40 = 144 / 40 = 3,6 Ohm
  4. 24V cartridge:
    R = 24² / 40 = 576 / 40 = 14,4 Ohm

So the cartridge for 12V has the lower resistance. That is the way I would do it.

I do have a multimeter (mostly to see if my batteries are still ok) but I'll try to follow your advice. Thank you very much.

Thank you very much again, Clemens. It worked. The values differed a bit 4.6 iso 3.6 but I assume that is to be expected.

This is great information. I had the same issue. Mine too came in at 4 ohms so I could identify it as the 12v Version. Musch appreciated!
