Re: ORIGINAL PRUSA I3 MK2S RELEASE (UPDATED)

Be interested in adding the new smooth rods and bearings to my upgrade kit order placed on 9/2. Would this be an option ?

Re: ORIGINAL PRUSA I3 MK2S RELEASE (UPDATED)

Any sign of the gcode versions of the parts ?

Annoyingly my PINDA cable broke - while Prusa have sent me a replacement - I need to replace it on the old extruder mount so I can print the new parts so I can take it all apart again ... 🙁

55 € in Europe vs 49 $ ....maybe because the shipping is more expensive to US.
Anyway ready to print, thank for the gcode update.

Re: ORIGINAL PRUSA I3 MK2S RELEASE (UPDATED)

Hi Prusa folks, my printer has a valued spot in my dining room, so there's no way I'll print ABS.
Seems like PETG should be fine for the extruder, so I'll give that a go unless you tell me that's a dangerous.
I think I can discern the print settings looking at the gcode file for the ABS parts, but if you can share what settings you suggest it would be nice.

Love my printer!
Thanks

I'm a bit of wondering whether or not should I get this mk2s upgrade kit, considering that some people reported that it's too noisy or the zipties for y carriage snapped.

What I had probably is the rattling on my x axis when I move it manually 😐

Its because tax. Every consignee in an EU country has to pay the tax of the exporting country. The tax in Czech Republic is +/- 20%.
49$US are about 45€ plus 20% tax makes 55€ (all rounded).
All consignee outside EU don't pay that tax. If the importing country has a tax it will be taxed at the import customs.

Re: ORIGINAL PRUSA I3 MK2S RELEASE (UPDATED)

I have a request which might be helpfull for others aswell.
I (and several others) use IGUS bearings and some other smooth rods. Some have also printed a cable chain link. Having this in mind there is only one thing which these people won't be able to get themself easily:

3x U-bolts for LM8UU mounting

This is something which could be shipped at a low price tag within an envelope. I think that I'm not the only one who is just interested in the U-bolts.
Sure I can make them myself because I know some people who have the according equipment to do it right. But I think that there are several people who won't be able to produce these bolts themself in a way that they work as they should.

It would be great if we would be able to buy just the U-bolts (obviously including the hex-nuts...) at a low shipping rate. 🙂

Sorry if somebody already made that request. Haven't read everything...

Thanks for the tax explanation Mark S. 🙂

And yes U-bolt solo isn't a bad idea :

Re: ORIGINAL PRUSA I3 MK2S RELEASE (UPDATED)

Aside from the extruder body, are there any other printed parts with worthwhile upgrades? I, like many others, cannot print with ABS and so I was thinking of adding the new parts to my order as spare plastic parts.

It's kind of sad that the printed parts aren't included in the upgrade kit, though. I'd at least like to see a separate kit with the upgraded printed parts.

I would also print the new RAMBo housing parts and the z-axis top parts.

I don't blame Prusa for not including the new spare parts in the kit. They are 7 weeks back-logged on orders and there is very little margin on this upgrade versus a full printer. It doesn't make fiscal sense to take production machines away from making full printers to make parts for this upgrade.

I will not print them in ABS. I will print them in ASA.
Vicat softening temp of ASA is about ± 98˚C. Beside of that ASA doesn't tend to wrap like ABS does. I printed my cable chain links with ASA and was really impressed on how they looked. I bought my ASA from here: https://www.3d-printerstore.ch/3D-Filament/3D-Filament-1-75-mm/ASA-Filament-1-75mm/ASA-ProFill-Filament-1-75mm-0-75kg-rot::1096.html
Some more information can be found at Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acrylonitrile_styrene_acrylate

Re: ORIGINAL PRUSA I3 MK2S RELEASE (UPDATED)

My print quality for the MK2S parts in ABS is horrendous. I believe this to be user error but layer 1 is just not laying down smooth. Searching the forums all the advice on how to print ABS is about adjusting the settings, which since the parts are already .gcode is not possible.

PLA prints nearly smooth on the first layer, and the room had an enclosure and no drafts. Is PLA just much more forgiving on initial layer height?

Trying to figure out if i need to spend my time calibrating live Z or something else?

Thanks!

Are you sure about that? If I compare the upgrade package from what I saw one or two days ago, I can see only two differences.
Price is a little bit higher and PET cable holder part is included. Nothing about the printed ABS parts.
I am also scared about printing the ABS parts myself, and also one more serious reason.... I have only blue ABS filament, I would completely screw up the nice orange/black design 🙂 Joking, filament for it should be part of delivery....

Re: ORIGINAL PRUSA I3 MK2S RELEASE (UPDATED)

I don't get it why everybody still wants to print in ABS while ASA is much easier to handle... 🙄
Ok. ASA costs at my usual filament supplier about 75% more (750g for CHF 35.- instead of 1kg for CHF 25.-). But it was so easy to print from what I as an ultimative newbee to 3D printing can tell. The only really important thing is to use glue stick! Otherwise you might ruin your PEI surface as discussed here. I tried blue tape but that didn't work at all.

- Doesn't smell. I didn't smell anything really. At least not more than with PLA.
- Vicat softening at about 98°C (ABS is usually between 96 and 104°C). I don't have more concerns than with ABS about the temp around the cold-end and radiation heat from the hot-end.
- About no warp (same or even less than PLA). My supplier states at his website: "zero warp" at ASA while he writes "minor warp" at PLA...
- According to my supplier heated bed (80-90°C) recommended but not needed. I used 85°C.
- Print temp is 235-255°C. I used 255°C for the first layer (0% cooling fan) and 240°C (30% cooling fan with bridging override 100%) for the rest.

Only negative is the price point. But honestly: Fiddling around for hours and having misprints or just going on and printing stuff is the more important argument for me. Price would be a valid argument if it would cost 3x more than ABS.

What do the Pro's in here say about that?!? I'd really love to hear something from the much more experienced users!!!
