Head stuff fully up, Z 0.0!
I have access to a shared Prusa printer and this morning I discovered it fully "head up" on the Z-axis and refusing to allow the head down.
Calibrating doesn't help etc - how do I get the head down and correctly set as the "head down" position?

That didn't work either. The head moves a tiny amount down (from fully up) and then complains that there is a sensor error/dirty head. It seems stuck on the idea that it is close to the heatbed when in fact it is nowhere near.

Managed to get it to recalibrate the Z axis at about the 3rd attempt. No idea why it would not do this before :-(.

I spoke too soon. Still won't print and complains about the levelling sensor although I've tried following the "how to test..." instructions and it seems to be fine.
Suggestions for what to try next?

The MK2 printer has a three wire PINDA,
the wires are +5volts, Ground and Signal.
with use, the repeated movement of the extruder can cause metal fatigue in the wires.
this can lead to mis operation...
Your Pinda, should have a little red light at the top of the Pinda, where the wires come out You can test the functionality of the PINDA, by moving metal, close to the plastic tip at the bottom of the pinda.
the LED should go dark when metal is present and illuminate when metal is absent (or vice versa, memory not good! lol)
If the Pinda does not work, it is likely that one of the wires is broken in the pinda cable.
if that works, then set the LCD Menu to show sensor status...
the pinda status should change in time with the LED changing
If the pinda led works and the LCD Status does not work then it is likely that a different wire is broken in the pinda cable...
the odd thing is. of the three wires, two of them breaking, just stop the pinda working,
the third one, causes a permanent status that sends the printer to the top of the Z axis... and I can't remember which one it is... but it's not massively important, because the repair options are the same either way
Option 1,
Replace the Pinda wire... needs a bit of electronics expertise, but can often be done immediately, at home if you have the necessary items
2, Buy a Prusa Pinda ..... Hmmm. I can't find that on the Prusa Spares page. Beware, the Supa Pinda has the wrong plug on it...
3, Buy an after market Pinda...

I am actually using mine, on the MMU3 where it works very well It will also work well for the Mk2.
And, Added bonus from my point of view... the indicator LED is much more visible on this version,( and the strain relief on the cable is better...
this is more important when the device is used as a Finda, in the MMU2 or MMU3)

Thanks @joantabb, that might explain why the head ended up "fully up". Might be buying a new sensor shortly then ;-). Will repair the other as a spare in case this happens again as repair will be a lot easier with it out of the printer assembly ;-). Thanks for the advice.
