Print issues after building the kit

Hello people,

First of all, what a lovely printer. My first 3D printer was a self built Printrbot Metal Simple, but this printer is on a whole other level 😀

I have some issues with my prints though, and I hope you can put me in the right direction for what I can do.

My first print, a batarang went overall fine, but there are some stripes Im not sure how I can fix.
The second print, the frog, did not come out so fine at all - except the bottom layer, its so smooth and I cant even see the lines on it.

Any help? (Both prints are from the SD card)

Re: Print issues after building the kit

I had the exact same thing happen to my first Treefrog print! It was the most horrendous looking frog ever lol. I am not exactly sure what caused it, but like you I printed it straight from the PRUSA SD card.

My thoughts are it could be a couple of issues.

1. Retraction Vertical Lift. I use Simplify3d, but I think Slic3r has a similar setting. After watching my failed print, I noticed the nozzle was hitting parts of the treefrog during movements, which I think caused some of the issues.

2. Could be an extrusion issue. I also tighten my tension springs on the extruder to help the gear get a solid grip on the filament.

3. Could also be your bed/frame is not 100% square or level. Try downloading FW 3.0.6RC2. http://www.prusa3d.com/drivers/
Then do an X/Y calibration and see if that helps.

After just messing around with my slicer settings and releveling my X/Y axis, eventually, the treefrog came out. I am honestly not sure what specific setting fixed it, but I encourage you to look around your Slic3r options and play around with some of the options.

The other thing is that the firmware was updated significantly since first release and the SD cards were loaded with GCode files that worked with early firmware.

The drivers download contains amended SD card files which should be transferred to the card.

Re: Print issues after building the kit

Thank you for helping me.

I have tried the following since last time:

* Relevelled my bed, it was abit wobbly in the Y-axis
* Used the newest gcode for the 3d printable items located in the driver download
* Upgraded to the latest RC firmware
* Used the new X/Y calibration method

However, the frog has not gotten better - but other prints seems somewhat fine.
The frog looks very porous and the extruder is now having difficulties extruding above those layers! It just stop extruding, I hear no clicking in the extruder motor (Two frog prints with the same outcome)

Right after I failed the frog prints, I tried to print the flute and a batarang, and they came out pretty decent.

I'm at a total loss for what the issue can be so any more help is appreciated.

(Also, Im sorry the pictures are upside down, they are not like that on my computer.)
