New bearings installed, Endstop not hit Motor Y

After my last problem had been solved (melted plug) here is the next one.
I was actually very happy with my MK2S, didn't think it was too loud but as I read quite a few threads about Igus bearings I decided to install them. (Never change a working system!!).
I bought the printer used on ebay, it came partially disassembled so I am not familiar with every step of putting it together.
After checking the manual I disconnected the heatbed from the Y-carriage, disconnected the rods from the y-carriage and replaced the bearings. The belt came undone during the process. According to the manual I loosened the screw at the Y-motor, adjusted the belt and fastened the screw of the Y-motor again. Tension of the belt seemed right. Then I reassembled the rods/y-carriage/heatbed.
When I ran the selftest the bed went back all the way, rattled for about 5 seconds and I received the message "Endstop not hit Motor Y".

- When I push the endstop I can hear a click.
- I also ran Settings->Move axis-> Y axis. In one direction it shows -002.0 which I had never seen before.
- Another thing I noticed, maybe not connected to this problem: Calibration->Auto home, the extruder unit moves all the way to the right and also rattles there for a few seconds

Where did I go wrong during assembly?

Re: New bearings installed, Endstop not hit Motor Y

good morning Hans,

as I understand the situation,

you have a mk2/s

your printer used to work,

you replaced the bearings, and your printer now doesn't work.

the Mk2 relies upon physical endstop switches.
there is an option, in the configuration menu on the LCD, called
Show End Stops.
select this, and then see if moving your X and Y axis, by hand, easily activates the switches.

in my case, I fitted Igus to my Y axis, and they seem to have tightened up over a time, and the Y axis now jams... so I intend to replace the Igus with LM8uu bearings, when I fit my mk52 12volt heatbed.

other things which may give problems are incorrect cable management, preventing or making full travel of the axis difficult, or overtightened u bolts on the y axis bearings

if you want to test the Z axis, you will need to have the pinda probe, at least 3mm above the heatbed and then touching a piece of metal against the tip of the pinda, should cause the displayed value to change.

I have no idea why your X axis tries to home to the right!, mine homes to the left.
the original prusa stepper motor wires have a clip on them, to stop them being inserted the wrong way round, if you have a non prusa plug, it may be back to front

regards Joan

Hi Joan,
Thank you very much for taking time for such an extensive reply.
So many things I haven’t been aware of. I guess this weekend will see me checking your suggestions. I will definitely give a feedback, good or bad.
Thank you again.

Hello Joan,
problem solved! Thank you very much for advice.
The Show End Stops (I didn't know it existed) indicated where I went wrong as the end stop itself when pushed by hand worked fine. Cables were all in the right place but I had assembled the Y-belt holder the wrong way so it could not touch the end stop. As you had mentioned the U-shaped bolts I made sure I had not tightened them too much and now I have a working printer again.

Hi Hans.

I replaced the igus bearings today greased the new lm8uu with white lithium grease. And installed a mk52 heated on my mk2 mmuv1. So that I can use my powder coated build plate on the mmuv1

Do you have a specific thread on how to change the MK2S to 24V?

Re: New bearings installed, Endstop not hit Motor Y

Hi Hans,

I used a 12 Volt mk52 heatbed...

I have also bought an einsy and 24volt mk52 bed for my other mk2. plus 5volt noctua fan with tacho, and 5volt blower with tacho

so I hope to build a mk2.8 hybrid

but that may take time
