Edit: got the firmware, started to print the corner squares and noticed something very strange: the top few mm of my print area is clipped off. Also, after printing all the squares (A-H), they were mostly okay (more or less).

So I printed a full (210 x 250) 0.2 layer just to see where I stand across the entire bed and the results are pretty disappointing.

Any ideas on where to go from here? The majority of the bed looks pretty good... but there's the weird smudge-looking area to the NW of center and then whatever is going on near the NE corner. Also looked like the nozzle dragged across the surface or it was underextruding.

I'm going to reprint to make sure the filament wasn't getting hung up on the spool in regards to the NE corner (it took an hour and a half and I wasn't able to watch every second).

Hi all i just built my printer and been having the same problems as some people in this forum. I'm glad it wasn't my building.

With the changing of the firmware do i have to compile it as a hex file or will it upload via the arduino ide

If you want to make the changes yourself, you can compile and upload via the Arduino IDE.

If you get the HEX file from Jeff, you can upload with the PR firmware uploader.

I tried to upload via the arduino ide as the gitpage has specified but now all i see are squares on my lcd. I tried to use the newer version of the firmware 3.0.12. One thing i'm not too sure about is which varieant of the rambo i have i assume its the 13a since its the mk2s but i'm not fully sure

So is there a way to contact support other than the online chat or [email protected]? I've tried the online chat twice and both times some guy named "Martin" said "Hello" then didn't say anything else for 30-45 mins. And then all he told me to do was send a photo to [email protected], so I sent that photo and the .gcode and haven't gotten a single response.

I can't get my bed to print completely flat, and that big smudge just NW of center seems to be there no matter what I do.

I installed the hyperfine firmware and it works, in that, it definitely affects the corners/sides. The problem is that smudge area never seems to be really affected and the only way to get a flat, even line in that section is to lower the live Z so far that the rest of the print has ripples and scars because the nozzle is far too low.

Thanks for sharing your hex file . I tried the calibration g code which turned out to be ok ,but need some more refining. But now my point A is approximately 140 micron higher compared to centre ,but the max value permitted through firmware is 100 .Now one way to handle this is to used G80 a140 .
Kindly let me know if there is some other way .

There is no other way to contact PR; I would suggest that you try "Live Chat" at a different time - when they are not so busy.

This can be verified by using a magnifier (x8) and look closely. If you can see single lines then this is definitely the cause - otherwise it may just differ slightly compared to the other areas.
The part of the bed that shows a wavy pattern could be due to that the nozzle is too close to the surface and the material has nowhere to go but upwards.

Yes, I believe it is the case. I took a straight-edge ruler across the top of the surface and I can see a gap in that area. I don't know if I have the tools to accurately measure the gap but based on the effects of live Z adjust I would say that depression is 0.125 lower compared to the surrounding area.

At live Z -0.500, the depression is there and the rest of the bed is fairly consistent (NE/right side somewhat closer to the nozzle but this can be corrected with the hyperfine calibration, it seems).

At live Z -0.625, the depression goes away but the rest of the bed is unusable due to the nozzle basically dragging across the surface. Using the hyperfine calibration, I can get all the corners and the center looking "okay" but can never zero in on that depression. I say "okay" because printing anything bigger than a 30mm square in the NW/upper-left quadrant, or center, starts to encroach on the depression area.

Using the 4-point bed-level correction (eg, stock firmware), I can't even get the right side looking good.

Wow, glad I found this post !
I was getting quite frustrated with my bed leveling : I have a nice first layer in the center and in the left top and middle but can't get the same on the other squares, even when using the bed level options in the menu...
@JeffJordan, could you send me your version of the firmware since this is my first post ? I would be more than happy to test it and send my results!

So friends here is the result of 200*170mm rectangle after doing calibration of the square Gcode shared by Mr. Jeff for the second time .

There are minute ripples on the front right corner which I believe can be managed by raising the c square z height values in the G80 code .

I would like to thank Mr Peter and Mr Jeff for their Hardwork and for sharing it with us with out thinking of any profit which they could have easily made by this code. 🙌

I owe both of you a chilled beer 🍻.

after owning the printer for a year and just putting up with it, I can print large items without worrying about the ripples in the first layer.

Is there a modified version of the MM firmware?

after owning the printer for a year and just putting up with it, I can print large items without worrying about the ripples in the first layer.

Is there a modified version of the MM firmware?

I can't agree enough, this mod pulled everything together and had it all working like a dream! Was just wondering the same thing about MM since I just upgraded.

I managed to successfully calibrate all 8 hyperfine bed leveling points to be within +/- 30um of the centre (-95um). Went to bed happy, then woke up the next morning and tried to print straight from a cold printer, and it's as if the calibration was all for nothing again!

Does anyone else get this irregularity? During the long calibration process when the printer is constantly heated and printing, you can dial in the values perfectly, but once it cools down everything goes out of whack?

My one small tip to every body is to reverse the direction of hotend fan ,as in normal course the fan blows air onto hotend & the air gets little hot while moving over the hotend and then touches the pinda probe which was giving me some issues in live z height calibration.After reversing the direction of the fan ,the problem seems to be resolved .

The readings remain in memory, but it doesn't result in good prints like it did last night! So it's not an issue of the settings not being saved.

Can you please let me know ,how you uploaded the firmware .Mean to say ,have you uploaded the firmware using Jeff's hex file or by using the audrino ide.

I suggest you to update it using audrino,but before that do an eeprom clear using examples.

Please use the updated firmware 3.0.12 from GitHub for this purpose.

At the same time reverse the direction of the hotend end fan too.

I hope it will resolve the issue.

Have you run that v2 calibration or Jeff's v4 75*75 mm calibration gcode ,as with out that your values will not get stored .You might have missed that.
