Re: First print Benchy troubleshooting

Start with getting Layer 1 right. Yours is way off. It needs to be much more squished. The boat bottom should be glassy smooth. The layer extrusion issues above layer 1 are weird. Belt tension may be an issue.

If you have a dial caliper, measure the Layer 1 Calibration test print. The pad should measure 0.2 mm or 0.008 in. thick. The other way of telling if the layer is right, there should be no gaps in the first layer as it prints. Each strip should weld to the last strip that was laid down, and to the perimeters.

Also - printing the supplied .gcode should give a good result if the printer is setup and adjusted right. Stick with the supplied gcode samples until you get an acceptable print. And then, once samples are clean, and building your own parts and slicing, stick with Prusa defaults until you get comfortable with 3D terminology.

Adam,

The print is looking much better - layer 1 is still a bit weak, and belts might need a bit more tension.

I printed this boat a few weeks ago on my Mk3 - my belts were a bit loose and I had a few bad bearings (just got them replaced yesterday - woot!).
