Few issues. Can you help?

Hi,

New to prusa mk2 forum and to the printer. I've been test printing for a few days now and can't seem to sort out the issues in the images attached.

I'm slicing with Simplify3d and using prusa simplify3d fff.

Can anyone give me some advice on these issues:

1. Gaps in first layer infill, but not everywhere.

2. First layer infill is not smooth and has a lump where the start and end point meet.

3. Start and end point of each layer has a streak and a small gap.

I've adjusted the live z to get rid of the gaps on the first layer infill, but then the infill finish is terrible. To high and it doesn't stick, I think the height I have it now is perfect for adhesion but not for the gaps.

Thanks for any advice given.

Any adive on these issues?

I'm still getting the gaps on some parts of the model but not on others parts.

Thanks

Hmm, it's a bit hard to tell.

Can you try printing this: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1776031

Then post a photo?

Thanks for the reply.

Attached are the results, all images are named as to where they are on the bed. I can see the left side doesn't look good.

Here is my FFF https://www.dropbox.com/s/xb14w3wzvnjy686/left.fff?dl=0

I have my bed level correct set to:
Left side 0
Right side -50
front side -50
Rear side 50.

What are your thoughts on solving the issues?

Thanks

Those photos aren't actually terrible. My own printer doesn't seem to do too much better.

How does it look when you reset bed level correct back to all 0's?

I've had the same gaps when slicing with S3D, although I dont think that is critical, looking at your last photos.
That your first layer looks messy is because the first layer height is lower while the flow rate is constant and set to your general layer height for the rest of the layers, this results in over-extrusion. Which can give some messy results, but it always looks better from the first layer and up.

Looking at your first images you have some settings off for sure, your extrusion multiplier is probably not set correct for your filament and/or your Z height might be too high. Have you calibrated the extruder-steps and calculated a correct multiplier for your filament after that?

I would like to see the calibration print, just a single line.

Other things that might results in gaps between outline / infill is the Outline Overlap settings in S3D, I have it set to 16% for my eSun Premium + PLA for example. Printing speed can also be an issue, but I assume you print at standard speeds?

Another thing I sometimes test if I see things like this while printing the first layer is to turn the speed down alot (50% often) and tune the Flowrate up/down to see if I get a different result.

Ok, I had a mendel90 before this and it never had this issue of gaps in some places of the model and not in others.

I'll try resetting the levels and see what happens.

Also try lower your retraction settings maybe? I've sen the same issue when it retracts to much, its like it sucking in the filament before it really has bonded, which makes it leave a gap/hole like that.

Re: Few issues. Can you help?

Sorry Patrick didn't see your previous post. I had to calibrate my e steps with the Mendel90, I looked in the prusa manual and forum but couldn't see how to do it. How does it work with the prusa? With the mendel90 I extruded 100mm and measured what it really extruded, then used arduino to upload the changes.

I'm using the prusa S3D profile with a few tweaks to improve blobs, but other than that I've kept it the same.

Have you had a look at my fff? Is there any improvements I can make there or anything I've changed that I shouldn't have?

Thanks for the advice.

I used this guide:

I can see some differences between our FFF's, I started with the FFF from Josef.

Hi Omikron,

Just wanted to say: thanks for the tip. As a 3D printing noob all help is welcome! 🙂
This helped me out a great deal to get a much better first layer.

Not sure if I used the right approach but I set the live Z adjust to x amount and then printed an reviewed.
Ended up printing several iterations.

I had trouble dialing live Z in using the supplied calibration gcode during printing. Now I simply reviewed the squares afterwards. Maybe a bit more wasteful and time consuming but at 9 min / print still doable.

Thanks again
