Nylon Nightmare

I have printed with Taulman 230 very succsefuly previously with no issue, in fac it is a great material to print with.
However i decided to leave this one alone after the first 6 or 7 layers as it had nice adhesion and was going well, so when I came back 6 hours or so later ,expecting it to be finished, I found the below nightmare.
I have no idea why it decided to lift ( bed was at 60 deg with the addition of Kores glue stick) but even then how it managed to keep spooling filament into every avalable orrifice is beyond me. of course the nylon is so tough that the print head assembly is beyond recovery, I can only hope to salvage some of the components, thats if I can ever cut it away.
The images are shown after I have already cut ome of the larger lumps away.
What an absolute pain in a*#..

Re: Nylon Nightmare

I was tearing my hair with nylon carbon for 3 weeks. Final set up was 110°C bed, enclosure, 240-260°C nozzle, kores gluestick (severals layers). So try look at profiles from other people.
It is got damn messy, I hope you will be able to fix it!

Do you suffer from any stringing? What are your anti-string settings like?

Thanks

Re: Nylon Nightmare

I was able to salvage an all-metal hotend (except the thermistor, found it with cable ripped by the nylon) when this happened on an Ultimaker. Turns out you can dissolve Nylon over 1-2 weeks in concentrated boric acid. It doesn't do damage to the metal or other plastics and is fairly harmless (gloves & glasses for protection, but it's not really corrosive).
The problem is how the stuff shapes around itself when it is still hot, it really does creep into every corner.

Re: Nylon Nightmare

If you're in the US and need the printed parts again, I have a set of the upgraded design I can send you. I'm still waiting on my 2.5 kit, so I can print another. I have one that the first layer wasn't that great on one of the parts. Its internal, so it will never be seen, but I can send you that set today/tomorrow if you need it and don't have another printer.
