New V3 extruder

I have managed to print the required parts for the V3 extruder upgrade and over the weekend took the extruder apart
and fitted the new parts?

Since then I have been struggling to get the calibration correct - I cannot even print the calibration test or squares
as nothing will stick (I have tried 3 different spools of PLA)

Looks like the nozzle fan shroud is quite low - the print nozzle itself appears to be almost level with it, I seem to remember
before it did protrude slightly below, and am wondering if the fan nozzle shroud is catching the first layer and pulling it off?

I have lowered the Live Z to - 0.750 (used to be around -0.450) but am worried I might start scraping the PEI on the steel sheet...
and of course this is also lowering the fan nozzle shroud at the same time, and there is no adjustment for this!

Anyone else had similar problems? I have tried cleaning the PEI, cleaning the nozzle etc but before the upgrade the prints
were pretty good (this was how I printed the upgrade parts, all in PETG apart from the fan nozzle which was in ABS, as suggested

I normally struggle with ABS but the fan nozzle shroud came out perfect...now nothing does!

One positive outcome was that before the X calibration failed as the left microswitch was not tripped, and I had to add a 1mm pad
onto the extruder body to get it to calibrate but the new extruder body worked first time.

Re: New V3 extruder

Not a very clean photo, but shows the relative gap on my printer. The orange shroud never touches the bed. It does occasionally snag larger whiskers when the printer leaves them dangling - especially malformed supports Slic3r loves to slice.

If my hot end had a silicone cover on, it'd be visible below the fan shroud. So plenty of clearance for printing.

Re: New V3 extruder

Wish I'd never installed it now!

Just can't get the calibration sorted out - I have used a cable tie to set the PINDA height - two different sorts, the (slightly) bigger one resulted in the nozzle dragging the paper sheet around the print bed to the point where I aborted the four corner calibration because I was concerned about damaging
the print bed...then tried with a thinner (slightly) cable tie and everything calibrated but the filament won't stick - I lowered the nozzle to -1.2mm without success, it used to be around -0.550, what do I do now - had a printer than worked well and now can't print anything!

Move the probe up? or down? My logic is the higher the probe is the closer to the print bed the nozzle is, so it ought to be a tiny bit (0.5mm) higher but this is very hard to achieve with any accuracy!- unclamp the probe, open the clamp with a screwdriver and when you try to move it either nothing or 2-3mm!

Any suggestions? East to read about 'unscrewing' it but there is a cable attached to it that has to be routed!

Doesn't help that the assembly instructions are for a version 2.0 which was upgraded to a 2.5 and now 2.5 with a 3.0 extruder I guess!

Might try the chat to see if they have any ideas if I can get through!

Re: New V3 extruder

Thank you Tim - I am pretty sure my nozzle does not show much below the fan nozzle - and I do use a silicon sock which I cannot really see
from the front?

I'll take a picture or two from the same angle as you and see how they compare...I was careful to fit the hot end properly, it is pretty impossible
to fit it too high (into the extruder body) as there is a lip at the top of the finned section.

I suspect my Z axis/PINDA calibration is out but seem to remember before the new extruder I could clearly see the nozzle tip sticking out?

Cheers

Re: New V3 extruder

After struggling with this for a while I contacted Prusa 'chat' and managed to get it resolved...

Ended up with a factory reset, loading firmware 3.5.0 and going though all the calibration again...

The new firmware appears to move the extruder head faster, and the Z adjust is definitely working now
(although I am still 'tweaking' it a bit) so whether there were bugs in my firmware or it got corrupted??

They did point me to a couple of pages giving info about carrying out a factory reset https://help.prusa3d.com/l/en/article/SYvbQ66IXF-factory-reset and using Pronterface
to test the PINDA probe and print the calibration figures which was quite interesting? (I hadn't used Pronterface before!)
https://help.prusa3d.com/l/en/article/3tSXh6nWJd-pinda-probe-testing

Turns out the PINDA probe was working correctly in the end
