Belt clogging up pulley
Hey Guys,
I have just had to pull my machine (mk2.5s) apart and noticed that the X axis belt has been clogging/depositing in the grooves of my motor pulley and I was wondering if anyone knew what the cause of this was? (eg belts too tight, slipping, skipping etc).

IIRC the Mk2 (and early Mk3s) predate the official "gates" belts; those have (red-orange) fiber reinforced teeth; I suspect they are less likely to succumb to this than plain rubber. Might be worth upgrading/sourcing some replacement to that.

Belt slipping is one possibility, but you'd be seeing artifacts in your parts. Normal belt wear, second. Rubber oxidizes and flakes off. Ambient temps being too high for the belt is third most likely.
From Gates: Temperature range. The normal temperature range for standard construction materials is generally -30 to 185 F.
By using special materials, temperature ranges from -65 to 230 F can be obtained.

Thanks for your help guys, It seems it was either just old belt or non-fiber reinforced issue as you both mentioned. I picked up a couple of meters of some premium belts with reinforcements and after a couple of days im seeing no wear or deposits.
