RE: ABS Gear doesn't hold dimensions
I'm curious enough about this one to do a test print, if you would please share the .stl file. Remember that it has to be enclosed in a .zip file to attach it here.
RE: ABS Gear doesn't hold dimensions
Sure, here you have it.

Thanks, I will run that tonight when I get some time. I always have black ABS on the spool rack as I use it frequently.
RE: ABS Gear doesn't hold dimensions
Here's your gear. I printed it with my usual ABS defaults, which are really the PS defaults, using Hatchbox black ABS, which is my normal go-to ABS filament.
I used a break-away support and a short raft. I've learned from experience that gears turn out much better when printed on a raft, but this one really did not need it since the teeth are laying on the support.
It's not totally clean, but should definitely be usable and strong. There's some distortion right where the teeth meet the support interface and at the very top of the gear teeth, but no trapezoid distortion. Using the digital caliper measuring with two teeth touching on one side and one touching on the other side I get 40.96mm at the bottom and 41.03mm at the top.
My hunch is that it would print cleaner in PLA, and if this were my project I might try that. I've found from trial and error that PETg does not really work very well on smaller gears, but for one this size (which has larger teeth than the gears I typically print) it might work OK.

You guys are awesome and still encouraging me to try one more time. I'll try with PC defaults and see how it goes.
Thanks.

@jsw
what infill have you printed this with?
Maybe my problem is that I am printing this with 100% infill?
