3D Benchy - Any thoughts?

Hi all - any suggestions of where/how to start to diagnose this? I have tried altering temperature settings, silicone sock, different slicers, replaced the hotend. This is about the best I can get, this is with brand new PLA. Appreciate any help or advice!

Can you post a picture of the problem?   Top and bottom is best.

White is always a trickier filament to print, perversely it takes a much greater percentage of pigment properly to colour the plastic and this affects the behaviour.

This is very shiny, it looks as if it was printed too hot, which manufacturer's filament is it?

Is this a new build printer?  This might be a fan or fan shroud problem.

However, before we speculate it would be best to look at the underlying problem:

Please use printer and slicer default settings and print again; show us the print or the failure both top and bottom and we'll see what we can do.  Use the Add Media button to incoorporate pictures in the post.

Thanks for your response

Its Hatchbox PLA which i have used before with no issue. I get the exact same issue at about the same Z level with other colors of PLA and other manufacturers of PLA.

I recently upgraded to the 2.5S for the flex steel bed. Before that I had no issues printing really ever.

IIrc you have a new fan and shroud along with the bed..?

In the photo it seems the lower part of the benchy is very shiny, but it is less so further up.  As if cooling is not even.

If so then I would suspect both the bed temperature and the print fan or shroud aignment.

I won't have access to an actual Mk2.5 before lockdown ends so I can't run your settings atm.  A picture of a print made with the default settings would be useful.

What do you mean by default settings? I used Prusa's gcode for 3d benchy and did not change anything.

Yes new fan and shroud.

But if this is a standard benchy gcode we can rule out any of your changes and Hatchbox PLA settings are similar to Prusa PLA so we can expect the code to be suitable.

Is this plain Hatchbox PLA or Silk PLA?  Imo silk tends to extrude in a fatter strand when unconstrained which might explain the look of some of those loops.

On my Mk3 a misdirected shroud caused cooling problems and eventually melted itself.  Make doubly sure that air is directed around the nozzle where it should be.

Do you have any way to check the bed temperature?  If it is too high it might have this sort of effect.
