X-Axis Belt wandering

Since upgrading to 2.5, noticed a build up of black dust on both Z motors. I found the X-axis belt is rubbing against the sides of both the pulley and idler. I tweaked the position of the pulley on the motor to re-center the belt, significantly closer than the 2.5mm recommended distance. Now the belt wanders between the two sides of the pulley depending on the location of the x-axis. The closer the x-axis carriage is to the pulley side, the further the belts moves away from the motor until its rubbing again that side. If I move the carriage away from the motor side, the belt moves to the other side of the pulley and rubs against the far side (see video). As for the idler side, it constantly rubs again the side of the idler toward the front of the printer and I don't see a way to adjust it.

Otherwise the printer seems square. I checked that all the screws and nuts are not loose. It passes the initial wizard and confirms things are perpendicular. Adjusting the pulley position greatly cuts down the rubbing on that side, but don't know what to do about the idler side.

Is this a sign something is off with the carriage? Any ideas? Thanks.

Re: X-Axis Belt wandering

Thank you for your reply. I can live with the belt wandering on the pulley side as it minimized the wear on the sides of the belt I am more concerned about the wear on the idler side. Judging from the dust produced with each print, there must be a firm pressure pushing the belt against the idler. I was hoping the video might give someone an idea of whats causing it. I could take a video of the idler, but it just show the belt pressed against one side.

Re: X-Axis Belt wandering

Some versions of the right hand x axis bracket are reputed to have incorrect alignment of the idler retaining screw holes...

this may cause alignment problems,

the standard idler only has one bearing in it, if that is off centre, it could cause the belt to bind on one side...

my mk2 idler bearing failed after a lot of work, that also caused uneven belt travel.

what have you changed in the mk2.5 upgrade, that might give you a hint

Re: X-Axis Belt wandering

Thank you for your reply. The only change I made during the Mk2.5 upgrade, outside the instructions, was changing to an Olson Ruby nozzle.

I will take a look at the right hand bracket and print a new one if anything looks off. If that doesn't clear up the issue, I will order another idler. Its out of stock at the moment, but I'll keep an eye on it.

Thanks again for the suggestions.
