thermal runaway errors

Hello, I have been having this issue for a while now.  3 weeks ago I replaced both hotend and bed thermisters and was able to print fine until yesterday where every print I tried resulted in a beep and a thermal runaway error about 30 minutes in.  I've tried 4 or 5 different prints and all died at around the same time in.  First time I found the error was when I came home from work to hear the fans spinning loudly and bed and hot end temps at 23 degrees.  this also happened the next 3 times i tried printing and got thermal runaway, however the next 2 times I tried printing the fans just shut off after the beep and error.  Ive checked to make sure the thermisters are snug, the bed and hotend both heat up normally, ive also noticed ive been getting mintemp bed errors every so often when heating up to print.  at this point I'm at a loss as to what to do next.  is the fact that the prints seem to go for roughly the same amount of time before erroring out an indication of another problem?

RE: thermal runaway errors

I also have this sometimes with PETG (not with PLA).

The solution that works for me many times is to print the parts off-center. My theory is that the fans of the extruder sometimes seem to cool the bed too much and the bed temperature sensor is at the center.

Hello,I had the same problem, I obviously solved the situation by adjusting the fan setting of the PLA filament with the values of the PETG:

Fan always on

Automatic cooling

Speed min: 30%, max: 50%

Disable fan for the first 3 layers

Max Fan for Layer 5

ThresholdsEnable if layer print time is less than 20s

Slow down: 15s

Minimum speed: 15mm/s

I haven't had any problems with PLA since.

RE: thermal runaway errors

You have different types of thermal runaway and the solution depends on the type of problem, for example you could have a thermal runaway even where the nozzle gets too hot, or you could have an event where the nozzle gets too cold.  You can have the same for the bed, the bed could get too hot or the bed could get too cold.

When I update my I3 Mk2 to a Mk2.5s I had problems with certain types of prints where the fan would cool the nozzle too much and cause an event.  Initially I solve the problem by adjusting the part cooling fan speed.  My permanent fix was to put a silicon sock on the heat block which allowed me to keep the part cooling fan at high speed.

Before a solution can be suggested we need to know which kind of thermal runaway you're dealing with.

Cheers

RE: thermal runaway errors

I haven't logged in for quite some time, and started to answer this, and then noticed that it's 8 months old. So I hope it's been solved.

All of that said... in general when I read a post that starts with "I just replaced XXX, and now I'm having related issues..." I usually assume that the issue is related to the replaced part.

But, since it's been so long, have you actually managed to fix this? Out of curiosity, what was the problem?

If not... has the problem remained the same, or is it continuing to shift?

RE: thermal runaway errors

Bonjour,

Bien cordialement.
