PINDA2 Hat?

Hi there,

i justed wondered, that there don't seem to exist a PINDA2-Hat/Bumper for the MK2.5-version?
Because of the PINDA2-Holder, the old Bumber don't fit. Is it not needed any more to prevent the Pinda to crash into objects?

Thanks,

Re: PINDA2 Hat?

Since the PINDA is always higher than the nozzle, how is it possible to ever crash into something?
I never used such a thing.

When never ever a PINDA is crashed into an printed object, why Pinda-Covers exist (and i think i heared first about it in a newsletter from prusa)? 🙂
If the Pinda is ~0,2mm above the nozzle it's possible that it's touching an object, because for example top layers are sometimes not clean/plane. I have this problem on top infill where the lines are very short (1mm for example), then i have a little filamentknob that could be higher than the nozzle.

Re: PINDA2 Hat?

First I'm hearing of PINDA hats, but it is an interesting idea.

My PINDA runs 0.82 - 0.92 mm above the tip of my nozzle, which I think is fairly standard for the Mk3. That's a long way in Z height from blobs that might form on, say, a print sliced to a 0.20 mm layer height. If blobs form, I might get the extruder slamming into them (an ripping the print off the bed), but not the PINDA.

However ... if I ever attempt a multi-part build by printing multiple layers on each part before moving to the next print. This mode is described in ...

https://www.simplify3d.com/support/articles/multi-part-printing/

... as the last print mode, and requires you to consider the geometry of the extruder. If you get the geometry wrong and lay out your parts with insufficient horizontal and/or vertical clearance ... the PINDA can go SLAMBO into your print.

Enter the PINDA hat??

Re: PINDA2 Hat?

There is nearly no room to mount a "hat" for the MK3 style extruder assembly (this includes the MK2.5 upgrade kit). Screw-on fastening like MK2 is thus impossible. Metal fastenening of some C-clamp hat is ill-advised due to fastener metal interfering near probe head. The only viable solution would be printing an entirely new Extruder Body part with the PINDA clamp area extended to provide bumper protection. Not worth the effort in my opinion.
