Old prusa i3 mk2/s with latest slicer software?
Hello Friends
I‘m new here and i hope for some help! It‘s the first time ever in a forum.
And english is not my native language.
I’m surching since 3 days in the net and was not able to find the answere. I bought my first 3d printer, a prusa i3 mk2/s!
It was cheap and is in very good condition. But since i downloaded the prusa slicer software i‘m finally not sure about if it will run with that latest version!
The oldest printer in the slicer setup is just the mk2.5 or mk2.5/s!
Can i run it with this setting or will i damage the printer?
I red something about an optical filament sensor. Is it crucial when its not there? Further i found out that the most changes are just like failsafe and so on.
my Equipment: prusa i3 mk2/s printer 2.4.2 firmware , macbook pro late 2017 i7, latest prusa slicer software, freecad
RE: Old prusa i3 mk2/s with latest slicer software?
MK2 and mk2s do not have a filament sensor.
The mk2s differs with hardened steel rods. So functionally there is little difference.
MKoukd be 2.5 is more like MK3.
MK2.5 has laser filament sensor
MK2.5s has Infrared filament sensor.
MK2/2s has a different extruder setup compared to later models. There should be a MK2 slicer profile which also suits the mk2s

Thank you for the answere!
Would it maybe make sence to download an older version of a prusa slicer? I fear that the latest slicer could cause an issue with the older extruder, like you said, its a different one! (Mk2 to Mk2.5) I was surching for a mk2 slicer profile but could not find anyone.

I don't think it's a good idea to download old versions of prusa slicer for a mk2 printer, you would have to go a long way back
I am currently using Prusa Slicer 2.9.0 and there is a Mk2S profile that should work perfectly with your mk2
the differences between the two models will not impact print quality
I use the Mk2S with MMU1 version, even though My printer is a Mk2 not a Mk2S

Ok, finaly I got it! I thought that the oldest printer is in the top and the latest at the bottom of the list. This was a little bit confusing to me. I hope i will be successful with my first print.
Thanks a lot for your help!
