MK2.5S filament sensor not working

I am using the latest firmware and (as far as I can tell) the latest extruder parts.

My sensor was working for several months but now it has stopped working. I took the extruder apart and it worked after I reinstalled for about a day then stopped working again.

My filament sensor does not respond to filament insertion. When I insert filament I hear a click indicating the ball is moving (it seems to stick a bit) but on the LCD display, there is no change in the sensor signal. I can not do 'autofill' for filament.

I have looked for an answer on the web but can not find a solution. Most of the discussions seem to be about the MK3S sensor.

Same issue here. Checked the wiring - didn t help. IR-Status  0  with or without filament. Lever moves fine. Any suggestions?

I finally got it to work. I used some compressed air to blow out the entire sensor and filament drive gear area.

This solved the problem for me. I assume there were some very small dirt or filament particles that were causing the problem.

RE: MK2.5S filament sensor not working

Is there the old filament sensor in use or the new one which uses the small steel ball and the magnets? If you use the MK2.5S it should be the new sensor (old one was MK2.5). The thing with compressed air sounds to me as you use the old filament sensor. This one is very sensitive to dust.

Best regards, Clemens

I am using the MK2.5S  - it has the steel ball and the 'sensor' is just an on-off switch.

Actually, with the compressed air, I did see some fine dust come out! It was probably from the gears meshing with the filament.
