Filament Hung Up

I just received my printer and got everything running good except loading the filament. I preheat and then Load Filament and it pulls just a bit, from there it stops. So, I unload the Filament and 2 ½ inches from the end of the filament there is a big gash in it. So, I cut it out and tried again. Now I have the filament stuck will not move up or down. I am afraid to pull on as it might break, and I won’t be able to get it out. I cannot find any fixes for this, so I am hoping you all might have a solution for me.

Hi George,
where does the filament go?

does it actually go into the extruder PTFE Liner? or is it stuck inside the extruder hobbed wheel chamber?

what filament is it?

what temperature is the extruder whilst you are trying to insert or remove the filament?

do you have any pictures?

regards Joan

Joan, thanks for replying. The filament is the one sent by Jo Prusa 1.75 0.05 mm PLA. it is stuck inside the extruder hobbed wheel chamber.(See pic) The temp. is about 215. It just sits and grinds until there is no more filament to grind on.

Have you tried to loosen the Idler screws a bit? Is the hobbed pulley aligned properly with the PTFE tube? What you could to is loosen the Idler completely and manually push the filament through the PTFE tube (with the nozzle preheated at the appropriate temperature) to see if there's any blockage.
