corrupt rambo?
I'm have some issues that I'm not sure if are all related or not. Curious if any of you think my rambo might be corrupt or failing. Here is a the symptoms I'm having and the things I've tried to resolve it:
Issues:
- Random layer shifts in X and Y axis (very frequent and then just goes away, then a few prints later its back. recent development)
- Sometimes random Y axis movement after a print is finished (sometimes frequent sometimes rare)
- Thermistor reading on screen jumps around during prints when there is a lot of X and Y axis movement (it jumps 10's of degrees around and seems like it has a lot of signal noise)
- Sometimes the printer starts up with gibberish text on the screen (very rare)
- It does not detect an SD is inserted unless you pull it out and put it back in like a dozen times (every time since I've bought it years ago)
Things I've tried to solve:
- re-flash the firmware numerous times
- Checked, rechecked, rebuilt and again checked all pullies, idlers, linear bearings, belts, belt teeth, belt tension, obstructions etc... on the X and Y axis
- re-seated all the connectors numerous times on the rambo
- tried printing from SD, tried from Octoprint, tried via ponterface
- tried defaulting all extruder settings in Slic3r (like z hop to .6 and such)
- tried slowing the prints down to half speed (including non print travels)
- I've left cameras on the prints to see what happens. I hear sometime a "bong" sound when it shifts a layer which sounds like a tooth slipping to me but the belts are tight and there are no missing teeth or things obstructing (had cameras above and below print bed watching)
My configuration:
- MK2.5 with the MMU2 attached (though this problem happens weather I'm doing multi material prints or just single material prints
- Printer firmware: 3.5.1 MMU firmware 1.0.3
- I have the latest octoprint running with it but I try both with and without that server
I'm sort of at a loss. The fact that the thermistor goes wild when there are a lot of fast axis movements make me feel like it could be some sort of noise or something in the Rambo but I don't know that much about that circuit.
Any ideas? Or should I just start buying parts and seeing if it gets fixed?

Have you check power supply voltages while the printer is running? If they are rattling around it could explain some of the things you're seeing.

That's a good idea. I haven't checked that yet. I'll look at those this evening.

The latest 3.5.2 firmware I just installed seems to have fixed some of these issues. It might be too early to tell but I got two prints off with no layer shifts now. It may have been a fluke related to octoprint but I did get an issue where the screen froze up while the hot end was heating up. When I noticed it was frozen and hit the reset switch, it turned out that it left the hot end heater on and the nozzle got to 600C. It smelled bad but still seems to print... I gotta keep a close eye on this, I don't want it burning down my garage.

That's what is known as thermal runaway - and hot ends burn fairly well, large flames from all the plastic, etc. I'd find out what is causing it before leaving the printer unattended.
