Selling Prusa i3 Mk2.5 and Buying a Mk3s

Hey Everyone,

I've been thinking of selling my Prusa i3 Mk2.5 with half bear upgrade for £500/£550 and then deciding what printer to move to and the obvious choice seemed to be the Mk3s kit for £699. I mean, it'd be quiter, seems easier to troubleshoot and has some nice QoL improvements compared to my Mk2.5.

Have heard of people building their own clones of a Mk3 but I'm not sure how confident I would be in doing that and whether or not it'd be worth the hassle / money saved.

What do other users think, am I completely nuts or?

I built my own Bear Prusa.  It runs fine with a Bondtech extruder.  No hassle.  It worked right after assembly and I was not the most technically savvy when I built it.

RE: Selling Prusa i3 Mk2.5 and Buying a Mk3s

I have had these two printers running side-by-side for about a year:   MK2.5S and MK3S. Both I built from the kits. The 2.5S started out as an MK2, then an MK2S, and finally MK2.5S. I am happy with both. But, frankly, I see no advantage to the Mk3S over the MK2.5S.

The biggest difference is that the print speed on the MK2.5S with standard 0.4 nozzle and "0.20mm Linear Advance" has a print speed about 30% faster than the MK3S with the same nozzle and "0.20mm QUALITY". (You don't need to have the printer to see this. Just run PrusaSlicer and configure both the printers and compare.) Today, for example, I am printing an 8 hour print on my MK2.5S that the slicer says would take 11 hours on my MK3S.
