MK2S Hotend Replacement/Upgrade Question

A little backstory: A friend of mine recently gave me the Prusa MK2S that we built together from a kit. He had a huge print mishap that resulted in pretty much the entire hotend getting encased in ABS (from the bottom half of the heatbreak down to the nozzle), and in the process plastic made it's way under the wire sleeveing of the heater cartridge. It even backed up into the heatsink and clogged it. He didn't really use the printer much anymore, so he gave the keys to the kingdom to me with the old adage "If you can fix it, it's yours."

I was looking around for replacement parts on E3D and found this V6 assembly, that seems like it would be a good step up from the original

RE: MK2S Hotend Replacement/Upgrade Question

I spoke to someone at E3D today as I broke the wire to the heater cartridge and can’t get it out so require a new hotend, they said it would be fine to get a normal 12v direct drive v6 hotend and it should work even though it is a 30w cartridge. If you don’t find to wait around a week I can tell you how it went so you don’t waste your time and money.

There are many options how to make it work again. But why not buy a replacement from PR directly?

It depends on where you live, as I live in the UK it is considerably cheaper to get it from E3D directly.
