Advice on Original Pursa i3 MK2
Hi everyone!
I've recently gotten the nerve to buy a 3D printer. I asked for some advice on what to buy yesterday and was meet with a surprising amount of feedback! So thank you guys for that.
I have done some extensive research on printers that would fit my needs and I think I have decided on the Original Pursa i3 MK2. Before I commit to buying one I wanted to hear some feedback from those of you who own one on what you think of it.
The most important decision I want to make is whether to buy the kit or completely assembled version. I would love to save $200 if I can. I'm worried I might not be able to replicate the quality of the pre-assembled version if I went with the kit. I'm generally a perfectionist when it comes to building things. Would I be able to replicate their assembly? I've seen a lot of videos that comment on how difficult perfectly squaring the frame is. Is this a common problem? Can it be easily worked passed?
Thanks again!
Re: Advice on Original Pursa i3 MK2
The MK2 is definitely the better printer for the introduction to 3d printing compared to MK3. It has been out long enough that all the "kinks" have been worked out.
As for assembly- it is definitely easier than some folks lead on. If you are competent and can read, it is not difficult at all- but don't expect it to "fall together" in a couple hours. Squaring the frame...IMO... is easier than tightening the belts after they get their initial "stretch" out.
I ran almost 10 kilometers of filament through mine before it was converted to MK2.5, and if a print failed it was due to user error in almost all cases.
The kit is a great way to learn about the machine for future maintenance, and really understand how it works- other than it zips around spitting plastic into shapes like magic.
All in all, the MK2 will serve you well with some patience on assembly, and proper maintenance in the future

Re: Advice on Original Pursa i3 MK2
Most answers you will get will say to assemble it by yourself. They will be not wrong, assembly manual is excellent, everything is well packed. If you pay atention and do not hurry there should be no problem.
For $200 more you get fully configured and calibrated ,printer. From the moment you open the package, you are ready to print in 15 minutes. Compared with assembly kit you gain between 4 to 7 days.
Next, you have full warranty (opposed for parts only for assembled version) and premium support. It's up to you :).
Re: Advice on Original Pursa i3 MK2
For one, the MK2 is an awesome printer in its current state. You can not go wrong with it, either kit or assembled. unit If you have more time than money, or would really like to know how things are put together and understand how to correct things, then the kit is for you. The instructions are clear, many many build videos are available on youtube, and I would agree that squaring it to within 2 degrees of skew is overblown, and quite frankly not critical or even important for most prints. Only the largest prints using the full bed would typically be impacted in the least. The firmware will correct for all except for the worst build issues. Again the videos before assembling and spending time measuring things twice, and perhaps some patience are the keys to having little or no issues and a positive experience.
One thing to note is that while you can purchase the preassembled and tested unit, it may get out of alignment or calibration during shipping. This is just a fact of life when shipping things across countries. I wish you luck.

I built my mk1, upgraded to mk2, upgraded to MMUv1... survived every step,
built mk3, got a mk2.5 upgrade to build soon....
and now know every knut and bolt... if I have to replace a part, no problems...
Chat support is very helpful
and we're not bad either...
less liklihood of transit damage on a kit
£200 could buy a lot of filament!
time you will save on opening the ready made unit box, you will lose later when issues occur!
if you can build an Ikea flat pack, chances are, you can build a Prusa 🙂
