Why didn't I just leave my working MK2 alone? (MK 2.5 upgrade fail)
Yesterday I did the Mk2 -> Mk2S -> Mk2.5 upgrade. My printer was originally a MK1 that was upgraded to a MK2 about 2 months after I bought it (which happened RIGHT before the MK2 came out, go figure). I really wanted that removable build plate more than anything, and if I had been smart I would have JUST done that part.
Anyway, everything went relatively smoothly, I followed this guide here: Mk2 to Mk2.5 upgrade guide.
After finishing, the first thing I did was a firmware update. Then I went to the calibration menu and went through the various axes, making sure they all moved properly and went all the way. I found a problem with the Y axis, it wouldn't move into the rear fourth of the axis. When I measured the width of rods from center to center front and back, I found it was further apart at the rear end by a shocking amount. So I adjusted that, and retried the moving of the axes and found that it now worked across the full Y axis, and the X and Z worked well too. Great, so I went for the self test. Everything passed up to the X axis. When it started the X axis test, it makes a horrible noise for about a second, then starts moving jerkily to the left toward the endstop. When it hits the left side, it makes an even more horrible noise and then moves to the right then back a few times and then fails with this message:
"Self test error!
Please check:
endstop not hit
Motor"
I tried cutting the wire holder zipties and retying them several times, the last attempt of which a picture is attached. I've also attached a picture of two things that came in the, I believe, 2S kit but I never saw a reference to them.
While doing the X axis disassembly I did crack both of the parts on either end a little. I was hoping to be able to get it back up and running and be able to reprint those parts. The rods are not loose, so I don't know if that is the issue but I'm going to get a friend to reprint them for me on his printer. I don't see how that can be causing it to not be able to hit the endstop, and they aren't loose.
While reinstalling the X axis belt, it is quite tight but I wasn't "struggling" to turn the motor back and re-screw it in. Also don't see how that could cause it, but figured it was worth mentioning.
Anyone got any ideas for stuff I can check? Thanks for any help.

Ok, found another thread that indicated that the self printed extruder assembly may come out slightly less wide than it should be. So, I made a temporary shim and attached it (a few layers of tape) to the part that hits the endstop switch and it passed the X axis self test, and all of the other tests passed flawlessly. Then I did the live adjust and got a nice bead that sticks and is perfectly smooshed, and was able to print a batman.
Here's the bad. It is definitely skipping on the X axis and I can't figure out why. The main thing I am thinking is could it be that my belt is too tight, causing it to stretch? I did get that sucker VERY tight.
Edit: It seems the super tight belt was causing the skipping. I relieved it by 3-4 notches and it's still tight but not nearly as tight as it was. So far, two small prints (and 2 calibrations) and not a single skip. I'll report back if it starts happening again, but I don't think it will. Leaving this stuff here in case someone else runs into the same issues.
