MK2.5 filament sensor working?

i did the MK2.5 upgrade since i wanted the spring steel sheet. *

the new extruder didn't really interest me much but now that i have it... in the self test my printer says the filament sensor is working ok but it doesn't seem to do anything at all. the printer doesn't automatically notice if i insert filament, it doesn't notice if filament runs out,... what does it actually do? 🙂 is this normal because the firmware is unfinished?

* i was really looking forward to the spring steel sheet but during the first few prints i was a bit disappointed. with PET it worked like advertised but my first few PLA prints sticked to it so well that it was almost impossible to remove them. annoyingly i scratched my brand new surface quite a bit during those tries. but now after some time removing the prints also works fine with PLA and i wouldn't want to use a printer without such a spring steel sheet anymore. 🙂

Re: MK2.5 filament sensor working?

Make sure the filament sensor and autoloading is enabled. Mine works great for autoloading and the few times I've tried the runout sensor it has detected it and paused the print (although I always get a pretty big layer skip on the resume for some reason, maybe because I use Octoprint instead of SD).

As for getting things off the print bed, my favorite scraper is https://www.amazon.com/Foreasy-Printer-Accessories-Removal-Shovel/dp/B01BUZUXXC . It's thin enough to get under parts, but not so sharp that is puts big scrapes into the PEI (although I do have some scuffing, but nothing that's affected adhesion or shows up on the bottom of prints). I think it's the same as a #2 art spatula.

“Turn the filament sensor on”.
How do you do that?
My filament ran out at the 98% (5hrs) mark and would not reload or continue. Brand new MK3. Haven’t seen any instructions for enabling this function.

Thanks

Page 63 of the manual tells you where to turn it on or off. Section 12.3.3.2
