MK2.5 and MMU

I've read the info about the MMU2.0 my question is not about that.

I have the MK2s with MMU, and I just received the MK2.5 upgrade kit.. what I want to know and I've not been able to find a clear answer, is can I just swap the bed for the MK52? I can wait on everything else (pinda2, noctua fan, already have bond tech because MMU), but I really really want to use the new bed without having to convert back to Non MMU. I'm not sure if the probe points are the same.. obviously I would have to do the XYZ without the steel sheet just like on my MK3, but I don't want to swap in the bed if there is no way it will work.

Thanks for any input!

Re: MK2.5 and MMU

probably fine BUT the new firmware calibration has the instruction screens, which you would have to do without. So removing the plate to calibrate XYZ and with sheet for live Z adjustment. there could be another offset though in the firmware to keep it a tiny bit higher though i am not sure. to me a bed is a bed, and Z offset but only way to know is try.

I am the same boat. From the answer in the link above, it seems like until there update from MMU 1 to MMU2 becomes available, moving to MK2.5 for MMU user may be complicated.

Forgive me if i am being daft. But surely you know your frame is straight. So bed mesh levelling is all you need. And that is done on the steel sheet

Joan, so you mean that we can run the G80, mesh bed leveling only having the bed from the 2.5 upgrade and the 3.1.0 firmware for MK2?

My printer is printing real good so i just want to swap out the heat bed for the time beeing.

Re: MK2.5 and MMU

The new 12V heatbed for MK2.5 has a different set of calibration points, therefore XYZ calibration won't work with different firmware. You calibrate the printer on MK42 heatbed, swap it to MK52 12V and only change the live adjust z, but I won't recommend this on a production printer.

To me that means that the "big" calibration cannot be done with the new bed so you do it with the old one. Then you swap the new one and adjust z accordingly. I don't do the "big" calibration that often but tend to do whenever I encountered some issues involving checking screws, moving frame.

So yeah, on a production printer (which is the purpose of mine), that's not the best way to use it on the long run. With my MK3 coming, I'll probably wait for the MMU upgrade to be available before upgrading to 2.5 .

Exactly the answer I was looking for, thank you. I searched for mk52 but didn’t find that one. Personally I like to run the XYZ after replacing the bed (PEI sheet swap for instance), I don’t trust things to snap back together ever so slightly out of alignment when putting the new bed on.

Re: MK2.5 and MMU

I have a MK2S and don't have the MMU but was told by support (Bart) that I can install the new bed and upgrade the firmware (which is necessary as the calibration points are in a different place) and it would work?

My reason for the question was because my existing bed is damaged and I will have to print the 2.5 parts with the old extruder but need the new bed to get the temperatures to be able to print on PETG?

Jakub seems to be saying this will not work - but I don't really have much of a choice?

Re: MK2.5 MK52 bed and MMU

I decided to fit the MK2.5 bed on my MMU kit for MK2S. So far no problem. I calibrated XYZ on the old bed and then set the PINDA height and Live-Z on the new bed.
I am sure if I need to calibrate again it will be a pain, but my old print bed was a mess, and I had already upgraded to MMU. I don't know the status of my MK2.5 to MMU kit, even if it will ever be compatible, so I decided to make use of the MK52 bed.
