XY vibrations
Hello,
can anyone help me figuring out from where these loud vibrations are coming from (see video bellow)?
It doesn't seems to vibrate all the time, just on specific speeds on the X, Y or diagonal axis. However sometime is so loud that I have the feeling that something will break.
Things I already tried:
- loosen and tighten XY belts
- removed Core XY side protection plates
- checked and tightened all screws on the XY axis (including stepper motor screws) and also on the Nextruder
- greased all rails
Hope that somebody knows what is going on because it's verry annoying.

For some reason the video was lost in the original post.
RE: XY vibrations
Hi, when you added the video link, there was a lot of formatting information in front and behind the video link.
this stopped the video link displaying.

RE: XY vibrations
Probably the same cause as in https://forum.prusa3d.com/forum/original-prusa-assembly-and-first-prints-troubleshooting/loud-rattles-from-hotend-assembly: stepper motors or the way they are driven.
RE: XY vibrations
I have this issue as well and I don't think its the steppers but the bearing carts. I get a resonance primarily in the Y motion but will also get it in the X depending on the speed of movement. For me this mostly happens during print and not in higher speed travel movements. The noise has a peak typically in the 205-222 Hz range and is easily picked out in a spectrogram. The yellow arrows pointing to peaks that cover a wide frequency band are the high speed movements. The red arrows point to the resonance events. You can see the peak hold above the waterfall that is centered around 215 Hz.
- A couple of things to note:
- The resonance is generated by the Y and X movements
- The resonance seems to be generated at the bearing cart(s) as I can get this noise with no tool head attached
- The resonance makes EVERYTHING rattle; the protection plates, the tool head, the light bars, ...
- Belt tension adjustment has had very little effect for me
RE: XY vibrations
I have the same issues, but mostly it occurs when Y axis movments, has anyone already an idea what could be the reason? (Jep mine is the 5 head, but it looks/sounds like the same issue)
RE: XY vibrations
I noticed it happens when either one of the motors is spinning at higher speed or both motors in the same direction at lower (probably half) the speed. At those revolutions motors seem to resonate with the rest of the printer. If they rotate slower - no resonance, if faster no resonance either (though there are other noises, most likely dominated by linear bearings.
Either way I'm disappointed with how loud XL is and support says it is expected and I should buy a loud piece of concrete to put under it to help it (while Creality machine I had before didn't have any issues like this).
RE: XY vibrations
I finished building mine today and have the same resonances, most prominent on Y moved with medium speed. They appear to come from the linear bearings/carriages on both sides. Also a bit disappointed about that noise. I hope there will some some ways to improve this soon. :-/
