Help in decision making and purchase advice
Hi everyone,
I’m considering purchasing a new 3D printer, with the Prusa XL being a strong candidate. Before making a decision, I’d like to hear your thoughts: What alternatives are there to the Prusa XL, and what concerns should I keep in mind?
Here are my criteria:
Must-have criteria:
- Budget: max 3000 EUR
- Print size: at least 250 x 250 x 150 mm
- Material: ASA, as it’s intended for outdoor use
- Minimal post-processing
- Quality over speed
- As low as possible minimum layer height
- Self-leveling bed
- Heated build plate
Nice-to-have criteria:
- Print size: at least 300 x 300 x 150 mm
- Reliable manufacturer, ideally European
- Beginner-friendly
- Expandability (e.g., multiple print heads)
- Enclosed build
I’d appreciate any advice, whether it’s alternative recommendations or pointing out potential downsides of the Prusa XL.
Thanks in advance for your help!
Cheers!

As low as possible minimum layer height
This suggests some very unusual special constraints; what are you trying to do?
