XL - Wish List

- brush for automatic nozzle cleaning before probing

- camera (USB) support
- camera mount option(s)
- camera support in webgui (may be also in prusa connect)
- bit faster printing than the MK3S+

- nozzle led
- chamber temperature sensor
- ADXL like resonances testing and compensation (mount option & SW support)
- for enclosure : filter / fan options (like nevermore micro @voron)

Thanks for considering 🙂

RE: XL - Wish List

I suspect the feature list is already complete.  They might consider this for future versions.

I think there will be many, many open-source solutions to most of your suggestions.  This is there historic approach.  They seem to be taking a more proactive approach to the XL, simply because it’s intended for a production environment, and production demands solutions.

XL should be able to be pushed much faster than the i3, but it’s huge build volume will likely result in much bigger parts and these will still take serious time.

Hopefully they can step up PrusaConnect a lot between now and then. My only "wish" would be for camera support, which I can do with OctoPrint, but I'd rather not have to.

RE:

Different versions with different sizes just like the different versions of Voron 2.4 printers? If the 36x36x36 bed is a 4x4 section, how about a 3x3 (27x27x27)?

or 27x27 with another height?

Sorry for my poor English. I try to do my best.

My only wish is any firmware but Marlin.  First choice is RRF which is infinitely superior and open source.

I would hope that the software would include a way to use multiple small filament reels and switch between nozzles when one runs out.

You probably will not be able to see feature like this until closer to release.  It is probably  a means to protect trade secrets and time to perfect the software.

My wish is Prusa releasing a video teaser of a some (any) new feature of the XL.

A walkthrough of the Concept/Design/Test/Manufacturing Process of the XL would be cool.

If XL is too secret maybe a walk though the making of Haribo!

Did you miss the entire video when they announced it? It's exactly what you're asking for here -- teases of some of the new features 🙂

2 wishes.

available in colour other than orange

don't release any of the files for at least 1 year to slow down the inevitable flood of cheap clones and give it a chance to establish itself. at least one other company does it.

RE: XL - Wish List

I envision a market for (as I said in the filament thread) for a highly-conductive filament, perhaps an alloy which melts in the 250-300C range, and an extruder/nozzle which could extrude this without the alloy adhering to a metal nozzle.

Perhaps a ceramic nozzle, or something like an aluminum (please excuse the Stateside spelling) 😉 alloy which does not have an affinity for the metallic filament.

Since the XL has changeable toolheads, something like that could be an option.

It would take some R&D on Prusa's part to do this, but as of this time I don't know of a TRULY conductive filament.

I know of one which has enough conductivity to work for such things as small signal analog and lower speed logic, but all of the others appear to have such poor conductivity as to render them impractical for real-world circuitry.

I'm surprised that it has not happened also.

Using a relatively low-temperature alloy as a 3d print medium could be a 'bridge' for Prusa between FDM plastic printing and true metal printing, plus it would have extremely low resistivity and it should permit, with care, of course, soldering of leads and such to the 3d printed traces.

My bad. I missed that in all my reading and watching videos of the XL. Blue would be nice. Black is dark and orange is...well, orange. 😀

Contact them and they might do a special order.  I do it all the time for my customers for a nominal fee.

I saw the video it was so cool. But it was 2 months ago 😀

Prusa does really great video’s. I just think the XL is revolutionary.

There is a lot of R&D & market development in printed electronics. I used to monitor it as part of my market analyst gig several years ago. I don't think FDM currently has much potential for conductive filaments. There are other technologies that are better suited. One thing that could change that is graphene-impregnated filaments.

There are 2 potential approaches to conductive FDM filament:

  1. Conductive filler in a thermoplastic carrier.
  2. Low temp metal filament.

There are problems with each:

  1. To get enough conductive material into the filament, it ruins the flowability for extrusion. An exception might be graphene, but I don't know if there currently is any effort in this direction.
  2. Metals don't have a viscous transition phase; they're either liquid or solid. You need viscosity to do FDM printing.

Here's a source for overview information on printed electronics:

Whatever you find to do with your hands, do with all your might!

Hi, always like to learn something new. Had a quick look in github, it seems to be centered on Duet. What are it's advantages?

BTW I do not consider the the fact that compilation is unnecessary, IMHO the printer is always going to be quicker and safer if firmware is compiled not run from tables or whatever. but that's just me

BTW2 you do realise that both Marlin and Prusa's fork are open source?
