RE: Where are you putting yours?

Fully understand. And it's a nice enclosure for a large printer, so it's gonna be costly anyhow. Haven't hoped that expensive, though.

Nice.  One suggestion.  I have found that the bearing spool holders like this work better if they have a self centering mechanism.

I replaced the spool holders with my own 608 bearing design

It’s the 3Dupfitters one

@ssill2 what an enclosure is this for the XL?

RE: Where are you putting yours?

thanks for the feedback.  I'll look into that.  it might be possible to just modify the spindle slightly, or put a small upwards angle to the whole holder base.   I've not honestly looked at them again since I printed them for my enclosure.   But yeah, I the spools do tend to walk to the outer end of the spindle but I've not found this to be any kind of problem in practice.

Chuck,  I added a spindle_r3 stl that is tapered so that the spool should want to tend to stay centered on the spool.  I've not printed one yet but it should just require a print of the spindle only.

Thanks.  I will print them this weekend.  I have been toying with an enclosure.  I can't decide if I am going with the Sumo or 3dupfitters,

RE: Where are you putting yours?

I might print one tonight just to try it.  I'm trying to dial in my tpu prints on the xl a bit more so I should have plenty of chance to see if it works as hope.

@ssill2 wait, the spools don't fit into this expensive enclosure, but have to remain outside of it?

RE:

correct, the enclosure uses the frame of the printer as part of the enclosure.  you would NOT want to be reaching inside and enclosure to load filament spools, or replace them.  it would substantially increase the required footprint of the enclosure.  and forget trying to lift the printer out.  That's fine for my MK4s in boxomo enclosures, I regularly lift the printer out to clean inside the enclosure and use the compressed air on the printer.  The XL is far to heavy to be doing that. if you want to take the enclosure off you just loosen the spool holders and you can lift the thing off.  It's big and easier with two people, but I can't imagine an enclosure for the XL that completely contains the whole unit, it'd be HUGE.

I think you'll find several of the designs people have mentioned on the this forum use the frame as part of the enclosure.

RE: Where are you putting yours?

I picked out an enclosure, but what I'm struggling with is what am I going to do for a table to put this monster on!?? Any suggestions?

I got all the parts for this enclosure in-house as of today, hoping to get it together tomorrow.  https://cults3d.com/en/3d-model/tool/prusa-xl-enclosure-custom-jussin5150/comments

spindle_r3 didn't do quite what I wanted it to.  I put an _r4 up there.   I'm printing one now to try it.

It is not uncommon for me to have R5-7 to get it right.  I printed a set of rocket fins at least a dozen different versions to get it right.  I change one thing and get it right but screw something else up.

RE: Where are you putting yours?

haha yeah.   I'm still actively using r2 for four of the spools.  Once I find what that works with the tapering I'll maybe reprint the others.
