Update is way overdue!

Actually, I’m really not surprised and I expected this even before all the supply chain issues became public. My bet is they not only can’t deliver by third quarter, I bet they can’t deliver by this year!

Come on Original Prusa! Prove me wrong!

Given the global supply chain situation I never seriously believed they'd be able to deliver before Q4 at the very earliest. And frankly, I'd rather they let the target date slip than send out half baked hardware. On the other hand, I agree, a status update would be nice.

I don't hold my breath with Prusa launch deadlines. Just think about the Mini Launch. And honestly, better they take the time they need then rush a flawed product to market. The supply chain challenges currently certainly do not help either.

RE:

You can use the supply chain issue as an excuse and expect patrons to wait.. but in the meantime, Bambu has launched a printer with Lidar, wireless connection, in 2 versions with a 4 unit MMU unit that seems to far exceed the abilities of Prusa. (and look at Anker) They've raised over $1m and plan to ship this year.. I fear Prusa is relying on popular hardware to reconfigure where maybe they need more in-house expertise and pick hardware boards that do exist that they can  tailor to their use. For example, I don't think Bambu is using the traditional Stepper drivers.. So they can wait for the supply chain to change.. but really in 2-3 years they haven't been able to add a wireless capability to either the Mini or Mk3 because they are relying on one unavailable board .. .. Like the pandemic, the supply chain problems are going to be around for a while.

Maybe so. Bambulab pulled off an impressive feat, however, they surely rely on supply chains too and are set in place with the choice they have made. Now they need to put out a lot of their printers to make their very competitive price work. I am quite intrigued by it however from all the reviews I have seen so far, I think with all those features thrown together it has a number of teething issues. I guess I would wait for the 2nd iteration or something. That one will be the real killer.

Prusa is certainly well advised to brace for the impact. However, the XL certainly can offer something that the Bambulab X1 can't. The AMS is fine, but it shares some concepts with the MMU (even if it differs in some aspects) and as such will be not as plug and play as the rest of the printer even when they get the software under control for it. I am not saying that you can't get it to good use, merely that it is at odds with their otherwise "hands off" approach of a fast core xy printer which just prints.

We will see how reliable the XL will be. If the promises hold true and it is very reliable it will offer something neither the MMU nor the AMS can: true multimaterial capabilities and if you get the multiple heads model even more than two radically different materials. Without huge amonts of flushing waste.

A quick scan the of the Bambu website, pretty surprised they went for MMU analogue also comparing the effects of resonance (with and without compensation) with itself seem kinnda odd, maybe their frame just isn't that robust.  Again the single head design choice might bite. Whats the retail price of this beast? Any reputable reviews?

There is no comparing a Toolchanger with a filament switcher like the MMU.

I have experience with the Palette, the MMU2 and two awesome years with my E3D Toolchanger. I have over 15 3D Printers (which are used for my printing service and also serve as the costars of my podcast; 3D Printing Today).

Toolchanging is a completely different game. Its way faster, way more functional and WAY more reliable.

I cannot wait for the Original Prusa XL! If Prusa Research does the job and fully refines it before shipping it WILL change everything... even for larger scale Industrial 3D printing.

By the way... all I really want is an update. Please give us an update!

Prusa Live is due in a week or two, so there should be at least a little news then.
