RE: Unofficial Prusa XL Waiting Thread
I seriously wonder if part of the reason for the enclosure is for stacking to make room for the XL in print ‘gardens’.
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm under the impression that the XL will be an open-frame printer, not an enclosed (from the factory) one-piece unit.
RE: Unofficial Prusa XL Waiting Thread
From what was said on Yesterday's Prusa Live on YouTube, there seems to be an issue that Delta is unable to provide the Power Supplies in the quantity that Prusa needs. So this may lead to some sort of re-design. This late in the process I can only conclude that a major delay is in the offering. The message is that there are constraints in the supply chain.
Cant wait , hoping to see an official ship time update soon . Honestly not expecting it until end of the year .
RE: Unofficial Prusa XL Waiting Thread
Oh no. I hope they can resolve it. What kind of power supply does it need, anyway? 480W?

RE: Unofficial Prusa XL Waiting Thread
I think they use like 3 or 4 Mk3 Delta PSUs for just one XL...
RE: Unofficial Prusa XL Waiting Thread
The frame is open, but the frame is a partial cube and not a full enclosure.

RE: Unofficial Prusa XL Waiting Thread
I would rather wait and have them get it right.

Not 100% sure but I’m guessing they start with 2 and once you get more toolheads they go up to 3.
RE: Unofficial Prusa XL Waiting Thread
Stack your Mini’s and Mk3s to make room for your XL. I’m hoping that the the XL will come with some kind of ‘dry box’ set up.

RE: Unofficial Prusa XL Waiting Thread
Do you have a link or timestamp where that was said? I don't want to watch an hour long thing to find that. Why aren't they communicating that more directly and clearly to folks who put deposits?

It's in the Q&A at the end.
Cheerio,
RE: Unofficial Prusa XL Waiting Thread
I wish that they had taken the chance in the video to talk about how how the power supply issue will delay things, or that they had a work around. I didn’t hear either, so I’m thinking that this is going to be a big disruption.
It’s Q3, and we should have better guidance than “we don’t have power supplies”….
RE:
Delta is not the only supplier of PSUs out there. If their incapacity to supply enough units would delay the release of the XL for weeks or months, Prusa could and should search alternatives. What about Meanwell , for instance ?.
RE: Unofficial Prusa XL Waiting Thread
I would guess it's a certification and testing issue. Prusa does all the needed EU testing and certification to make sure it doesn't burn down your house or disrupt your wifi. Restarting that with an alternative PSU is probably the delay here, and it's usually a matter of finding a testing facility with a free time slot for that particular test...

I think providing us with information would be a poor decision until a solution is found. Supply chain issues are enough. I would bet there are having trouble sourcing a few items and by keeping it vague, they can get better prices. Meanwell will probably be the power supply source is delta can't do it.

EU certification requires testing by an independent lab. Internal testing is for design verification & manufacturing QA.
I would guess Prusa has their own in-house testing but it will take time.

It is hard to believe Meanwell does not have an off-the-shelf power supply that would match their specs. Either way, that should not take much time to be tested. UL testing doe snot take too long.

They might have the product, but not enough inventory or capacity. Testing might not take long, but getting on the schedule might.

RE:
Specs doesn't really matter, you need to have the entire product tested. By an independent lab. Sometimes several, depending what they can do - EMC alone can require several different labs depending on the certifications. I've never been involved in certification for a product that has a heating element, so I don't know how that is certified.
Possibly you can sneak in smaller component changes but it's not certain.

But can they supply the 50,000 or so that Prusa need?
