Not when you pay for an order, and don't even get a time estimate for what you're buying. It's still 'whenever we can get to it'. Normally, you are informed of the order shipping schedule UP FRONT. I have lost a immense amount of faith in Prusa.

If you're that upset then don't pay for your order and wait for the shipping tables to be released. No one is forcing you to buy a printer. I paid for my order and in two weeks it was shipped out. I don't think that it is that unreasonable.

Oh, and this isn't something that just Prusa is doing. I ordered a phone case a week ago. I found out after ordering that they're running behind on fulfilling orders. I still don't know when I'll be getting it, but they have my money. It is what it is. If you don't want to pay up front then don't. There aren't 10,000 of these things just sitting in an Amazon warehouse waiting to be overnighted to you.

I guess it depends where you are in the queue. They need to provide an estimate then based on the order numbers so people can at least consider that decision. The cynic in me could say they're doing a cash grab to get the money in ASAP.

They've brought 100 new people on board apparently. That's going to push the wage bill up. I hope they've been well trained in the assembly and packing of printers. I completed my order earlier this week so I'm hoping mine will be shipped some point next week.

Yes it will push up the salary expense, but if it starts to materially reduce the backlog then it’s a good thing since that is one of the biggest things people have been complaining about with the launch’s of the MK4 and the XL.
what I find fascinating is that it wasn’t an issue when the Mini launched and it had a multi month backlog for over a year of my memory serves.

Oh please. You sound like the biggest whiner. I waited nearly 2 years for my XL, you can wait a couple months.

My point of view:
he is not “whining” about waiting for the printer but for the way of thinking of Prusa.
we were waiting for a printer… after having paid a small deposit.
Small because one did not know how long you had to wait.
but now Prusa expects you tobpay full price … while still not knowing when your XL will be delivered.
all you have is their promise that delivery will be “soon”.
now if there is one thing we can be sure of for Prusa … is that, other then delevering decent printers .. they can NOT be trusted with delivery-promises.
i’m sorry that have to mention this but it is the truth.

I have to agree here... paying in full now without clear knowledge beforehand of when you're going to take delivery is something that makes me uneasy. Can be a couple of days, can be a couple of months or a bunch, we do not know and deadlines have been pushed before.
Also as in all negotiations, the customer's strength to demand something (like timely delivery from the supplier) is payment. If you pay in full and then something unexpected happens, and deadlines have to be pushed again, most of your leverage is gone.
I think that if people are changing the original delivery, Prusa could just place a tab on our order page to select the current desired configuration and lock the final order. And continue to serve according to the day of order and number of heads. That way you can serve 1 toolhead, 2 toolheads... by day of order.
No need to deposit the money next week and take delivery in January or February.

I think in the context of the XL people have the right to be sceptical about paying in full when you consider the delays they’ve faced. Just my opinion

When they have so many more people employed they should improve the quality check aswell and not just building capacity. I can not complain about mine. It really runs perfect. And as soon as they put an XL in stock you get notified to pay e.g within 3 - 4 days or the next on the list will have a go. Something like that. So the payment is done and the printer will hopefully be delivered within a week or so.

I received email for my 1-tool XL on 15.9.2023, the email said that when fully paid, it would take 1-2 weeks to ship. I upgraded to 2-tool and paid the order 16.9.2023, order was shipped on 5.10.2023 and DHL delivered it on 12.10.2023.

I used to work for a company doing international imports. So I do have some idea of what I am talking about. When you place an order you should get a delivery date. Back then used to be, depending on the company, 3 or 4 weeks. An estimate is not "Whenever we can, hopefully before the end of the year".
Had I told my boss that we would receive our order sometime between tomorrow to 4 to 6 months after we sent the full payment, I would have been on the street within seconds.
But that’s literally how ordering almost anything online works. You might get an estimate up front but it’s just that… an estimate.

You know there is difference between saying for example within two weeks to sometime in the future, probably this year. Especially with Prusas track record on time schedules and promises for the XL. I got mine but that doesnt mean that i excuse Prusa. And for a cost of 3 to 4k. Not a 50e mobile case

I think you’ve hit on the core issue here. If Prusa really wants to get out of the kit and hobbyist market, they are going to have to show that they can deliver complete printers on time. Corporations, labs, and schools are not going to wait this long. They have budget allocations, that must be spent and projects that must be completed. If Prusa can’t manage those kinds of fulfillment needs, they won’t get selected. I noticed I haven’t heard anything about their AFS, advanced farm system?
