RE: Unofficial Prusa XL Waiting Thread
If that's your full-time job & you have an organized workstation, including specialized tools & fixtures, it should go even faster.
I don't know how anyone could assemble it in 45 minutes. It is a heck of a lot to do for 45 minutes.
Whatever you find to do with your hands, do with all your might!
RE: Unofficial Prusa XL Waiting Thread
In any case, the reason the presembled ones got first ship, because in the beginning it wasn't mature enough to let the customers build it them self and know they need to use the capacitys they have. I think theorizing why they ship whatever at what time doesn't really solve anything. We new Prusa XL was a hard thing to pull off, but they did. Better a good machine late than a bad one early.
I got my dual head printer last week and assembled it and it is just great, but if I would have had to wait one or two month more, then that would have been okay too.

FWIW, I got my shipping confirmation today for my converted 2 head to 5 head order. Paid 2 weeks ago yesterday.
awaiting DHL to pick it up and get a delivery date. And the import duty bill.
RE: Unofficial Prusa XL Waiting Thread
Was that a kit or assembled, Would you mind sharing your order number? I haven’t gotten any emails on my 5 head semi, so I’m a month behind you if all holds constant…

RE: Unofficial Prusa XL Waiting Thread
I understood the difference in shipping for assembled and semi-assembled printers. My guess was that they needed to make a detailed list of building instructions (as for the previous printers) and thus needed the experience of building the "assembled" printers.
But that info must be clearly available now.
On the shipment table I can read that assembled printers are shipped for orders made in april 2022.
So why are they still giving priority to assembled printers over semi-assembled ones (as the semi-assembled multiheads still have a order date of 18 nov 2021) ?
Is it because they make more money out of those assembled printers?
Or is there a reason why semi-assembled printers are harder to ship??
I am a bit dissapointed as for me, many of us are makers and builders. Most of us started with a printer we had to build of assemble ourselves with the clear advantage that you know your printer best when you had to assemble it yourself. When you have an issue, it is then easier to repair it yourself.
But now, the makers, people that ordered a semi-assembled one, have a disadvantage.
This said, i would also have prefered a to-assemble-printer in stead of a semi-assembled.
Building is a big part of the fun.
Maybe I should reconsider and go for a VORON?
RE: Unofficial Prusa XL Waiting Thread
I thing the excuse that they had to polish the instructions for the semi assembled ones is already old. From my point of view they should allocate their resources in progressing with the orders according to date and not to product type. Prusa reached the point that there is no excuse for their way of handling this. At the start they reassured all the preorders that changing their order from a single to dual and from dual to multi would not have an impact on their shipping date, but as we know this is just another broken promise. I'm a first day order and i'm still waiting for an email, while according to their shipping schedule:
The one-head assembled printers are shipping already (shipping started in the week of March 13th). We are switching pre-orders placed in November 2022.
The one-head semi-assembled printers are shipping already (shipping started in the week of May 29th). We are switching pre-orders placed in December 2021.
The dual-tool assembled printers are shipping already (shipping started in the week of June 19th). We are switching pre-orders placed in April 2022.
So someone that ordered A YEAR LATER a single head gets their product but i'm yet to receive an email notification. That's truly LOUSY customer service.
Personally i'm seriously thinking about this: https://www.makertech3d.com/products/proforge-4-tool-changer-3d-printer-kit. On the other hand i lost already two years so i'll probably stay for a few more weeks. The actuality is that for me Prusa is a company that has no business sense. It had one product that was actually very good (MK3) and that made them arrogant. Not mmu or sls or even mini as far as i'm concerned are products that would give Prusa an advantage over others. And in my next order i definitely look for alternatives.

RE: Unofficial Prusa XL Waiting Thread
I made a Voron during lockdown as something to do (V2.4 350x350). Huge learning curve and all that crimping! It was great at first but the print quality deteriorated and it would take a lot of time and money to figure out why. And, after all, shipping of the XL was just around the corner ... for months it now turns out.
I agree with all your theories. One more is that there are limits to what the support department can handle and perhaps they assume that semis will require more support than fullys. But I'm with you, those of us who built MK2 kits and upgraded, tinkered, customised, etc. would be less of a burden on support than a newbie with a fully assembled XL. And, yes, building is half the fun, I'd prefer a kit (but with a pre-made wiring harness).
I converted my order (Dual-semi 18-Nov 3:56pm) a week ago (23rd) and haven't heard anything yet.

RE:
My simple guess is: There are many more who ordered a semi-assembled two head version than the full assembled one.
I would even say that this is the most choosen option. So this is why they are still shipping orders from the 18th of Nov.
RE: Unofficial Prusa XL Waiting Thread
I went from a dual head kit to a 5 head fully assembled. November 18th 6:29 am EST is the time stamp of my order.
RE: Unofficial Prusa XL Waiting Thread
I would venture to say that they may also be throttling shipments of the semi assembled units as to not overwhelm the chat support. I’ve seen people complain that during the “blip” the other day that 30-45 minute wait times for chat was “another fail”.

There's a lot of amusing speculation here ... the big delay was the covid knock-on but of course it's all our fault for the extended delays; Prusa calculated time and space to build the number of machines they expected to sell and then we ordered a year's worth of construction in the first hour. I understand they've had to open a second factory, one of the problems of success.
And my guess is one of the delivery limiting factors is the production of print-heads. Presumably the main chassis production line dictates how fast machines of any version can leave the factory but the speed of print head production dictates the proportion of one, two and five head machines that can be assembled. The rate at which the fully-assembled team can work affects the proportion of kits to assembled and finally the number of each version ordered sets the length of each queue.
It would be truly astonishing if all the order queues could be served at the same rate.
Cheerio,
RE: Unofficial Prusa XL Waiting Thread
Hey all!
I just received my email and I ordered on day-1!
Yet I'm waiting for the 5-head when it comes out, so I'll still be waiting in line 😛
Some words of advice: Be thankful you are not the earliest users with this printer, like all Prusa Printers, it takes about a year or two for it to have all the bugs fixed.
If you get it shipped later this year, it will likely work far better than it would have if you had gotten it sooner. Also their preorders take forever because these things are ridiculously popular, be patient.
Best of luck!
RE: Unofficial Prusa XL Waiting Thread
Do you know of an actual review of this printer? All I saw were videos from Makertech. I am also interested to know if anyone has experience with the reliability of this brand. I think is something we all place high if we are purchasing from Prusa instead of other brands...
It is interesting to see it comes with an enclosure and filter, but from afar without seeing reviews or knowing the brand, looks closer to a Voron than a Prusa.

The lack of reviews is one of the main reasons i havent pull the plug on the prusa. And actully i got my email an hour ago.

Shipping Notification
FWIW: Just so you can follow the timing:
- Pre-ordered Dual-semi 18-Nov-2021 3:56pm GMT
- Converted pre-order 23-Aug-2023 2:30pm BST
- Recieved shipping notification today 05-Sep-2023 7:40am BST (so, 1 day shy of 2 weeks)
DHL is supposed to be 2-4 days but, in my experience, that service usually takes 8-10 days.
RE: Unofficial Prusa XL Waiting Thread
Oh do I have a full on rage for DHL right now. They have had my package 8 days already and its still not to me yet. It's arrived in Cincinnati on Sunday. Yes Monday was a holiday, but it should not take this long. I paid the $170 duty within 8 minutes, but it just sat in Cincinnati for almost an entire day after that. Its been sitting in Baltimore since 6:00 am this morning. I'm guessing they didn't want to send a truck out my way. I have found the CEOs email address, it may not do anything but if its not moving tomorrow morning I'm sending him the screen snap with the delays highlighted.

That is what happened to me. DHL is the lowest shipper on our shipper list. I have never had good service with them.
RE: Unofficial Prusa XL Waiting Thread
Got a call from DHL. The agent admitted that they JUST unloaded the container that came in from New York that has my shipment. It will be delivered tomorrow.
I’ll update if I get it.

Arrived
OK, so I can't complain about DHL this time. It's here! Unfortunatelly, they delivered right at the time The Tour of Britain was going near by so I had to stay in and wait for delivery and missed the race. And, I've got vistors staying tonight and plans tomorrow. It just had to be. Oh well, I've waited 659 days, what's two more?
