Tools (laser)?

Hi

Wanted to push this out now to get an idea about this.... the XL has "tools" i think many think this would be for putting nuts or bolts in to prints, i saw it as different head types... sooo are we looking at a Laser head?  The bed is kinda small for laser cutting of things like card board, but engraving works...  is this a plan?

I notice a few others have ask for different heads but is there any ideas for this or external companies to do this, although it would need that setting in the slicer as well and possible a round (mug) holder attachment, its all possible IF its on any menu to do.

Many Thanks

Laser cutting, routing and engraving come up frequently as alternative toolheads - but if you think about it they are stupid ideas.  3D printing requires cleanliness, anything that creates swarf, ash or sawdust will prohibit later prints without a laborious cleaning regime...

Think instead of heads that extrude pastes, pick and place printed-in components, lay down reinforcing threads (cf, kevlar) or even inkjet print surface colour.

For example, I know someone who would be *very* interested in a chocolate extruder...

Cheerio,

RE: Tools (laser)?

I also think, that laser cutting heads on a 3D printer make no sense. There is no good way to get a machine doing everything for you. Think about the power supply a good laser cutter needs, or, as Diem said.. the dust and waste a laser cutter produces. Better use the toolheads for more printing materials to get a better solution for supports or a purge free multicolor print. No need for fancy laser-cutter or milling tools on the same device.
