RE:

I haven’t preordered a XL but, as many people here, I was curious to check the default profiles set by Prusa for the printer.

As a test, I opened one of my 3mf projects for a Mk3S+, Using my custom settings for a 0.4 nozzle, it takes 5 hours 40min. to print. I switched then to a XL printer with 0.4 nozzle. with the same basic settings (infill, perimeters, etc.) except for the speed tab, for which I used Prusa’s 0.2quality XL0.4 nozzle profile. Printing time is now 4 hours 10 min.

The same model takes 4 hours 19 minutes to print on my Voron 2.4. As before, all settings are the same, except for speeds. Can we assume that the XL will be on a par with a Voron 2.4 concerning printing speed ?. Let’s wait and see. It depends a lot on  the shape and size of the parts to print.

Of course, this applies for a single toolhead XL. If we compared to a multiple toolhead machine then it‘s a moot point, because neither a MK3S+ nor a Voron can play there.

BTW, for the time being, there’re just two profiles for the XL : 0.4 and 0.6 nozzle single toolhead. Obviously, multiple toolhead units aren’t still ready, not only the printers, but the software.

There's also the case of input shaping being missing atm. It's still in the works and Josef did state on Reddit that they will increase the speed once that's done. I wonder how big of an improvement it will be.

I also wonder how much time will they need to release it... I'm worried it might be a similar case to WiFi on the Mini+. On the other hand, current speed is alright imo, as long as the quality is good. It will seem much faster on the multi toolhead option, you just can't beat that with MMU2S/AMS style systems.

But we will see. And there's always Klipper to fall back to.

Why is 2.6 taking so long to come out?  The variable width extrusion really helps with thin walled models that are just a bit out of just perimiters.

Mk3S will do multi material with an MMU2s attached. It would be interesting to run a 5 material print on both and get the estimated times… and materials..
