RE: Prusa Delays

Ding, ding, ding- winner.  I assume like most things, that speed can be tweaked, but people obviously haven’t watched an MMU stumble around trying to swap filaments…

After my frustrations with an MMU and a Palette, speed is the last thing on my mind.… I want reliability, not baby sitting.

RE: Prusa Delays

I saw it at TCT back in June, it was pretty substantial. The material looked very durable and the magnetic seal against the frame felt very secure. I'd say ready for production, but I can understand it doesn't tick all the boxes for consumers. Maybe it was outside of their target budget too.

But like ntdesign says, when the enclosure is dropped in the away position, the access to the print/bed/frame is great! Something you wouldn't get from any other Core XY printer.

Also agree with Vincent, I don't believe it'll be close to Voron speeds. Simply that these toolheads will probably be heavier due to the extra tech onboard, accelerations and top speeds will be reduced. But from the start, XL wasn't aimed at super quick benchy tests.

Good to know on the shield.  I will consider ordering on later.

Agree. I really hope it's as plug-and-play as my X1C has been! I don't need outright speed, but, I don't want to wait an extended period of time for large prints. I don't think speed would come at a cost of reliability. But reliability and ease is almost #1 for me.

RE: Prusa Delays

Reliable and hopefully useable for all materials, all the time (my printers sit in my office in our flat, noise is an issue). Don't care for speed that much, can always use a larger bore nozzle. These speed record benchies must have problems with adhesion and print quality (PLA is not used there for a reason), not sure if the last +/- 20% speed is worth discussing? Better workload planning and you won't see much difference if the longer prints end during the night. I wouldn't anyway advise anyone to run this as part of a business (yet).

Did I miss them mentioning an acceleration sensor? They did say at some point they might support Klipper, without a sensor it makes little sense to me as it would produce artifacts if you run faster than stock. Not that I care, but having the sensor would be interesting, even if there is no firmware support in the beginning. I don't think the printhead weight will be excessive. At one point I had a self-designed old school 350mm CoreXY with dual direct Titans for a while and it wasn't a huge problem. I found it way more important to have the center of gravity aligned with the rail. Also: the daughter board might add some weight, but also the wiring harness is lighter (and less pull) with that approach.

Good question @ntdesign I thought I saw some mention of input shaping somewhere. But i’m unsure if Prusa officially said there would be support for a accelerometer. Does anyone recall?

Getting kind of quiet.   Were some orders or evaluation models supposed to go out this month?

Looking highly unlikely. Jo Prusa is too busy getting salty on twitter over Bambu Lab. Time to focus on what his business isn't delivering rather than what another is.

If I understood correctly, units to beta testers will be sent out this month. There should also be a new dev blog shortly before holidays. First samples for customers are expected to be sent out during January, surely also depending on beta feedback.

Yet their website says first orders shipped Dec, doesn't seem likely does it? If it is then people should be hearing about the options very soon.

I was disappointed with how little time Prusa spent on the XL (perhaps 20 sec?) during yesterday's Prusa Live.  Not even a passing reference to supply chain issues.  Makes me think that it's going to be many months more before production starts getting shiped to paying users.

If the XL was going to be in the hands of buyers this month I'd expect a lot more fanfare than that.

WIch the current info, I highly assume beta testers to be purely intern (or closed beta with NDA). First samples to customers are currently announced for January with enough time before to reconfigure the reservation. Therefore I would assume end of January and about mid of January for the first mails including purchasing details. Best case optimistic view here...

Beta testing in December for a shipment in January seems highly optimistic, especially given the amount of holiday days around christmas&new year in a EU country, and would basically assume that no major issues are found.

I pre-ordered an XL within the first hours of launch, but remain highly sceptical of this proposed timeline.

RE: Prusa Delays

I think that is one of the first things that Prusa has to address is communicating the shipping order for the printer. Since everybody got in on the first day, and you’re talking a global sign up with large confusion on what “time“ you placed your order, they are going to be various expectations on one people think they’ll get their printer.

Plus, we need some clarity on the rumor that it will only ship with one head.

if there really are a group of beta testing, printers, going out now, I don’t see a lot of printers getting out in Q1 next year. And if you’re anywhere near the middle of the pack, it sure seems like we’re not gonna see anything until summer, best case.

RE: Prusa Delays

Anyone has a link to where that rumor originated? I don't think they'll do that, in a lot of scenarios the buyer would step down. I'm just a hobbyist, but I simply don't need another single head plus ??? months/years waiting time and then getting an upgrade possibly nobody tested long-term. The MMU was a disaster probably nobody wants to repeat. Probably the same situation for people doing on-demand printing. In the short run that won't be a problem as there will still be more than enough orders, but long term you'd want a wide user base as quickly as possible. Those people will order another one when their business scales up, you wouldn't want them to look around the market then.
Maybe they'll just ship out single-head orders first, and multihead a bit later. A bit of refinement using the simpler setups in the field cannot hurt. I really doubt customers that ordered multihead will get a voucher, discount or a promise for later. It would hurt their reputation and sales too much for very little benefit.
Overall they started the hype way too early, the real danger is nobody still cares on release day. I totally understand why this happened, they had this cool new thing they wanted to show, and all the fans cheering them on to release something spectacular. But you'd think they learned from past mistakes. This is a huge delevopment.

I don’t participate on twitters and it seems that is the major com channel for Prusa.  Can someone go to Prusa in Twitter and get them to at least address the single head rumor?

RE: Prusa Delays

I have a personal expectation of delivery... based on this journey as experience and it is my opinion. Its what Prusa say +2 months, and in my case as I didn't order until the start of January +3 months to get thru the preorder back log. So realistically, If its later than end of June... I'll be super bummed. But by that time I'll have 4 months of experience with a large Voron. There could be different decisions to make by then.

I would dwell on it because you can’t change anything.  You will not hear anything till mid January at the earliest.  That is just a guess, but i think it will be accurate.
