RE: Prusa Delays

If you need some one to stir thinks up call on Chuck.

You've got more printers that I can shake a stick at.

Posted by: @cwbullet

A single printer is never going to outperform 2.  That is an overgeneralization, but I can out print my faster VORON 2.4 with 2 Minis and it has double the print bed size.

Yes twin extruder was going to switch to 3 to get the correct board. Not sure I’m going to bother. I think it’s going to work faster for my current plans to buy a couple of Bambus for now - I am contemplating cancelling my preorder.

OK ,

I have two questions:

1) has anybody got XL yet? I mean normal customer, not betatester.

2)Is  somebody from Prusa Research here? There is no reaction from PR in this forum, so where are they?

1.  Nope.

2.  This is a user forum.  I have said this for years; you will get nearly zero visibility to Prusa employees on this forum.  We get a response once in like 10k posts.

There was somebody from Prusa’s. I thought on here recently, but they do not come here very often. I think you’re far more likely to try to interact with him on Twitter.

I’ve written off the XL now. It seems a failed product already. If you launch a product and take pre-orders then to get this far down the line and still have no clear delivery schedule, don’t expect loyal customers to take a word you say as anything more than BS. I can’t think of many other types of product being sold in such a way.

Ah, dang. Saw all the emails for replies to this thread and got a little excited that maybe some good news hit the wire. Shipments are supposed to start this month, right? So they got 3 weeks to meet that. Not gonna hold my breath of course. The silence, when a product is massively past due, is deafening.

I am pretty sure that at this point they will ship a few units this month, even if it means that Josef will personally put them together and even if that means they might ship 1 unit only.

RE: Prusa Delays

Well, regarding the secrecy, Joseph stated at 1:07:48 on PrusaLive #50 ( https://www.youtube.com/live/H3pT_NTV_TM?feature=share )  that Beta Testers can share as long as its pre-cleared by him or Nikolas.  He then stated that they have not been asked because of the trolls.  I wonder if the Beta Testers have been watching this thread?  If I were a Beta Tester I wouldn't waste my time.

Yes, they used the term pre-order, but it has always been clear is a reservation with a fairly nominal and fully refundable deposit.

And, finally, they announced either in the January or February Prusa Live that they were finally receiving parts orders that they placed 2 years ago. The global chip shortage is finally easing, but it is nowhere near normal.  I'll use my benchmark:  Have you been able to buy a Raspberry Pi 4 at MSRP recently?

Wednesday March 29th is the next Prusa Live.  Given how clear he was about single head versions shipping in March, I would expect an update then.  Maybe a Twitter posting to watch your emails if you hold reservations.  We will see.

Posted by: @christophercuk

I weirdly agree. Sorry Prusa, no more preorders from me in future.

I’d say I don’t think there’s the need for this secrecy, it’s only infuriating the buyers now I’d like to hear a plan and some movement on orders because as mentioned other manufacturers have designed from scratch entire product lines, built and shipped them in the time it’s taken prusa to deliver nothing to us yet. I’d be happy if I got more info on what’s going on that’s all I want at this stage. Last update video was way too vague and wishy washy.

No more critical sense to twist reality.  For information, European sellers on internet must accept refunds.

It is indeed a pre-order and they always use this term. why are you looking for excuses?  Nothing has changed and we still have as much information as on the first day. It's March 10 and still no planned shipping.

Not looking to making excuses.  "Pre-Order" usually, but not in all cases, means an order is placed, and full payment is made prior to goods being ready for shipment.  Think console video games.  In THIS case, payment was a nominal fee when compared to the price of the goods.

RE: Prusa Delays

I've been meaning to respond to this comment.

Really?  Josef Prusa is the founder, CEO and Chairman of the company.  As far as I can find, he is still principle owner (his brother may also have an ownership stake).  Watch this video ( ) that covers the founding.

Prusa Research is a Czech company, applying US fiscal "norms" does not translate.  D&B estimates Prusa Research has revenues between $25M and $100M US per year.  Josef Prusa is an Angle Investor in Czech company Worldee.  Prusa Research has purchased US based Printed Solid and purchased a controlling interest 3D Printer TriLabs.  You really think he is in danger of losing his job?

If I could arrange a meeting between you and Josef, would you tell him what you posted to his face?

Posted by: @milehigh3der

I wonder if anyone has told them that every month that they delay this, the chances of them keeping their jobs, and the value of their equity, goes down for when the company eventually gets sold.  The amateur schtick only goes so far.

Not looking to make excuses and quote all of them?

I didn’t need a copy and paste of what was said from Joseph I’ve followed the XL closely with excitement funnily enough.  I’m stating my position and asking a question which was simply this is taking too long and due to the way Prusa have gone about this with zero info I am looking at going to another solution that works for me. Why are you trying to convince me other wise when again you don’t know what I want the printer for or any info on my needs. It does come across oddly defensive and you avoided the fact that several other manufactures make equivalent boards to the PI and delivered them fine - It’s called making mistakes in supply chain and also making mistakes which it seems there are others who feel similarly.

And I’m sorry but are you calling me a troll for asking what I’m buying? I still don’t actually know which is odd even a kickstarter expects information within 30 days of closure, just wanting some information, I expected a company like this to have communicated something  by now for a ship by the end of the month is all?

Starting to see a different side from this forum now and giving a wide berth. Good luck everyone I shall watch from afar.

It felt by the reply you are saying that what I was doing was unreasonable because of a series  of cited facts is all.

Can we leave this now please? I just want the printer to make things and wanted more info I’m dumping a large amount of cash on? Thanks.

A few things are very suspicious about the situation:

1) till now  NO i mean NO fkn Tech-Dates. ( Nope the "old ones" doesnt count because they were with the old hardware )
2) No email  -  we have the 10.03. - when will we get it and have time to choose

3) Prusa Slicer  2.6. Alpha 5 doenst have the XL in it ...

4) No fucking comment - just a "we are in the timetable"... yeah .. sure... like in January?

Very dissappointed in Prusa at the moment...

RE:

I guess that there will be a few people like me.

I didn't buy a MK3S because I was just starting out and the cost was so high, even though Prusa had a great reputation.

I learned to print with a cheap 400x400 Anycubic Chiron printer.

I only print for fun, only have 1 printer, and was ready, 13 months ago to pay a premium price for a premium product.

So this is my first time dealing with Prusa and it's not gone very well. £1,491.67 (1 head) is quite a chuck of money compared to the £424.71 for the replacement for the Chiron the Anycubic Kobra Max.

If I switch to the Bambu Lab X1C it's £1,179.00 but the bed size is even smaller at 256x256. I print full size droids; I have a full size R2 D2 just waiting for a leg lift to be printed. Some of the other droid builders in the UK have gone for 500x500 beds to print the body and domes in 1 piece. At 400x400 I can print a foot shell in 1 piece, at 360x360 it would have to be 2 pieces.

So the XL may be large for Prusa but it's really only a mid sized printer and it's not ready.

Before the XL I was thinking about a RatRig V-Core 3 but that is a real build it yourself, do I really want to do that? The newer V-Core 3.1 400x400 standard is £1180.11.

They are all comparable but 2 are here now, both could be in my hands within 2 weeks. Maybe the XL will ship too, I preordered in Feb 2022 so I'm not at the front of the queue. I can mange with 1 head but would have liked 2.

The frustration of not knowing how things are progressing is getting too much, I'm beginning to feel like a fool for not buying a printer that was cheaper and/or bigger and ready. What happened to learning from past mistakes and keeping us informed? The last update was January 25 it's now March 10, there has been 6 posts since then, 4 about Printables, come on Prusa you could just drop an update. Even one to say what the Beta testers have been printing, even if only to show us the the new enclosure and the updates to Slicer that will be needed. It would confirm that process has been made, without any news, it looks more and more like there will be yet another delay and then I will think I'm a fool. Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.

RE: Prusa Delays

My first 3d printer was mk3 and also have the sls1 and mmu2. In all my transactions with prusa concerning printers i had to wait a while for the goods to be delivered. And in the case of sls1 i had to wait double the initial time because their black friday orders were more that they were prepared for. XL pushed the limit of excuses and disrespect to their customers. Things like supply chain , redesigning extruders and too many orders already became cheap excuses after the first year. As i said in an older post im not cancelling my order, mainly because i cant find another alternative for multihead printers, for the time being. There are some idex printers but those are expensive too and they are limiting you to only two heads. Im not going to BL and ams since i dont want a multicolor solution with extensive time waste - i have mmu2s for this- and i like the reprap approach. Proprietary equipment are fine as long as they work. When things start to break down is when sometimes we regret our choice. Expensive or end of life components etc. Prusa has some proprietary also (board etc) but at least a lot of stuff can be found easily or be printed.

But from now on IF i ever buy something from prusa again it will have to have substantial benefits to excuse the cost and waiting period. Their brand name is synonymous with delays and misinformation for me. Even their customer support is not what it was.  I wouldn't buy mk3s if i was buying a new printer. Its robust but slow and twice (or more) the cost of something else. Also i wouldn't go for their sla. I bought it on black friday due to free shipping and price offer and was still more expensive than lets say elegoo mars pro and offering nothing more. Tilted bed is not something that justifies 1000E price difference. SLS1 its a good printer but wayyyy overpriced. Like what is mk3s now.
