RE: Prusa Delays

Same here. I appreciated that he admitted they could have done a better job. That's not common for CEOs.

Like cwbullet, I think I'll go with the 5 head version and just wait. I'll be out of town, no printers, for most of the spring anyway so that makes waiting even easier 🙂

As tempting as the X1C is, the 5 head XL just feels closer to what my specific needs are. But who knows, in the end it may not be an either/or… 😇

Yea. I have an X1C+AMS, and a 2nd X1C on order now. Still want the XL, but, if it just plain never ships, the X1C is really working well for me (even if a bit more wasteful than the XL could be).

I own two X1Cs and 1 P1P.  They are decent printers, but they are not a Prusa.   I will probably sell on A1C when I get my XL.  I do not have an AMS yet but it is tempting.  The Bambus took a little time to learn and adapt.  I had some issues with adhesion at first.

Super happy with the update. Seems Josef looked a little on nerve, maybe pressure he was feeling regarding the lack of updates previously. But it was great to hear its progression and its not a product launch video, doesn't need polishing.

A little take away thought tho, as they will be dispatched default with 0.6mm nozzles... Do you think its slightly due to the print speed capabilities? If they gathered from the first beta testers that the print speed was on the slow side, 1 solution would be a larger nozzle. I wouldn't expect that decision to be made by the beta testers based on the question 'which nozzle size would you order it with [prior to having experience with it]?' Its an odd one.

Anyway, pre order still in place, still staying away from Bambulab and looking forward to the reservation email 😉

RE:

Directions on how to pay for your order?

STFU

Please stop ‘underdriving’ your headlights by illuminating on issues that aren’t relevant.  Prusa does this over and over and over- talk about what you have done because what will be is all BS.

Do it, tell about it.

NOT

Tell, tell, tell, silence, silence, tell, tell, tell, delay, tell— and maybe ship someday.

So April for MHUs…. Maybe.  Starting, perhaps.

Anyone that thinks that was good news is high on ABS fumes.

RE: Prusa Delays

Good general update. Assume the casual format was to accentuate the humble vs marketing; many of us are confronted with and understand the challenging supply chain. I am a little disappointed though in the lack of detail for any accessories after all this time, esp. in my use case an enclosure. I use my MK3s in an enclosure for temp + fumes/particulate management. Aside from the draft shield... maybe set aside? there was prior mention of a lid... I can easily see infilling the sides & front with laser cut acrylic but a really tall top may just be too much unnecessary weight for the frame. Wobble potential! plus pretty ugly - understood tool changer so compromise for benefit.

For me at the bottom of the world this is def. a pricey item. Freight + import taxes are a part of our life. A five head will likely set me back over $6K AU. Still excited and trying to be patient.. 5 will necessitate extra wait that is fine. I do hope we see some development in a lid for this as for me it probably will be a deal breaker, as a tool it's probably just not practical for how I will use. Fingers crossed...

I bought them to see if it might help me print a particular product.  It did not but I might use them with the Ams for multicolor prints.

RE: Prusa Delays

I would say Prusa need to start learning from all these delays. Every printer has the same issue and I’d rather they locked features and invested money in teams to secure the BOM more reliably in future than keep tinkering on a product that is now announced and seeing many delays. Many companies now source multiple parts with equivalent spec to ensure a smoother supply chain and it seems this needs much more work at Prusa.

This should be a factor in the initial design process with multiple suppliers selected so Prusa have options to source to a spec rather than a specific part. Sourcing becomes less of a trample on each others feet. It’s hard to say with how secretive they are but during the live shows it seems this is something they chose to do later and it stings them every time. I feel it’s time they invested more in this area and added extra features later via modestly priced or free upgrade routes.

I'm also hoping given the price they want to charge for these machines that they are including extras in the price - Extra nozzle, the bellow enclosure and really should be throwing in a couple of reels of filament as part of the deal - Those of us who have paid down deposits as well and continue through with the order  - I feel it would be great to see rewards like discount on future upgrades such as tool heads and enclosures. I want to feel looked after not price gouged.

I'm excited for the product - I just see that delays keep happening with every launch and given the current climate of parts being rare as hens teeth it’s time to diversify and become a leader in parts sourcing?

RE: Prusa Delays

My overall reaction is that Prusa extremely jumped the gun on announcing the product. In November 2021, the supply line issues were in full force, so there's zero way that caught them by surprise. Additionally, the fact that they did some rather large changes many months after opening preorders means that it was simply not at all ready. It would've been better for everyone involved to wait until they had something closer to what they have now before taking preorders. They could've spent that time dribbling out small bits of info if they wanted to build hype and tease things along the way, but likely should've refrained from even doing that. This is the first time I've been at all involved with a new product release from Prusa, but I hope this isn't how they normally conduct themselves.

Despite everything, I've placed a pre-order and even though I've been told I won't see it until maybe Mid-2023, I'm still looking forward to it.

If what was said about the multi-head extruder goes, and I can add them after, I'm going to start with one and then maybe add another to use the PETG on PLA supports method. I don't have any interest in multi-color printing. If that's not true, I'll try to add the minimum possible.

RE: Prusa Delays

Fear.  Uncertainty. Doubt.   The idea is to make people wait for a not-yet-released product, portrayed as superior, because of the belief that it will be worth the wait.  Put another way, it's the fear that you'll ultimately have regrets if you buy something "inferior" in the meantime.

RE: Prusa Delays

Ermmm no. I know what FUD is and I’m not sure what the statement adds to this. I was just talking about a recurring problem of parts sourcing. This has been an issue for a while and as a user who’d like to see the printer sooner than later and get using it was just making s suggestion on areas to improve in - Delays due to parts constraint seemed to be an issue before covid so I’m saying I’d like to see Prusa working more on this for their future products and start reducing endless tinkering before they ship.

Competition is good for all of us and there’s going to be a lot of competition in the market for these large printers from many manufacturers over the coming years as parts become easier to obtain and clones kick in. Sometimes getting the product out is as, if not more, important as perfecting it…

RE:

Fear, uncertainty and doubt (often shortened to FUD) is a propaganda tactic used in sales, marketing, public relations, politics, polling and cults. FUD is generally a strategy to influence perception by disseminating negative and dubious or false information and a manifestation of the appeal to fear.

I really don't think that applies here. The only FUD that one might spread is based on speculation that the Prusa XL would not measure up to devices currently available on the market.

Speaking only for myself, I understand developing a new product takes time and you simply can't predict when it's done. If you're like me, you probably want them to release the product, but also to work out all the bugs they can before release. You might argue that they announced too soon, but drumming up excitement is marketing. I get that and it's essential even if I sometimes find it unpalatable. I'm also basing my perspective on how satisfied I've been with my MK3s. It is a solid work horse of a printer. So I have a great deal of faith in Prusa's ability to deliver.
