RE: Original Prusa XL is out!

I have not seen a single person that assumed it was included.

I thought the enclosure on the XL was an add-on from what I've heard.  Why are people thinking it was included?

It is not included but the printer is thought to be closed.

You will have to buy the accordion and the top element to close the printer.

So it will not change the dimensions of the printer except a little on the height.

Accordeon will not be transparent but the top yes.

The power supplies are already positioned outside

The accordion is not an enclosure. It is more a draft shield. So what I have understand there will be an extra enclosure that is not yet presented.

That is correct.  Both the "draft shield" and enclosure to be revealed in the future will be addons.

Two months in and they are already one quarter behind….

Prusa being Prusa….

They knew the Covid reality when they started taking pre-orders, this is nothing new. I’m going to doubt that they even get half of the pre-orders out before the end of the year.

10% chance they just scrap the whole thing.

What are you talking about Willis?  They said Q2-3.  Q3 [Third quarter, Q3: 1 July – 30 September (92 days)] has not started and they also said it depends on the supply chain.

I guess you could cancel your order and move someone else up the list.

LOL, in business-speak, 'Q2-Q3' usually means Q3 at the earliest.  That's one of the great tautologies of the world, such as the Pope being Catholic and bird doodoo falling from the sky.  😉

But in business speak in the US, they usually use FY and not standard quarters.

LOL, in that case, don't hold your breath until FY 2023.  😉

Seriously, it's going to be a very good product, but final development and production will take some time and is subject to the usual bumps in the road.

Had I not acquired my 'other' machine last year about this time, I would definitely be in the market for one.

RE: Original Prusa XL is out!

It looks like they are already scrapping the Q2 language and now say starting in Q3- and even pre-orders are iffy this year.

Like I said a few pages back, I didn’t think that they would get to a ‘steady state’ (normal lead times) until 2023.  They just confirmed this.  And this is just with what I assume are logistics problems, not any issues with the printers.  Hopefully since they have had so much time for this, that they have wrung the prototypes pretty tight.

I’m starting to understand why they only took deposits and are kind of Willy-nilly on the version you can order.  Imagine throwing down $3500 and getting a printer over a year later….

In a corporate communication sense, they kind of blew it here.  They had the farm announcement, and then they brought out the XL.  The should have rode the Farm stuff for the first half of this year, and then put out the XL in late Q2 for Q4 deliveries.

I'm afraid that the first layer always perfect.

Either make thanks to a new setting that we will have to make filament on filament and temperature.

The pressure required will not be the same depending on the filament and the temperature. And the difference between ready near, far  and perfect distance must really be very fine and must change between the different type of filaments and brands.

Where are you reading that orders are iffy?  I would like to see proof or is this conjecture?

RE: Original Prusa XL is out!

If anyone has a crystal ball to predict when they will ship, why are they here and not making money hand over fist playing the stock market? Given the supply chain situation, god knows when they'll be able to ship. I for one don't even expect to get my hands on a machine this year. It feels so far out that at this point I'm a lot more interested in seeing them move Prusa Connect from beta to production.

RE: Original Prusa XL is out!

My order is from Nov 18 morning and was marked to ship early feb.  So I talked to Prusa support.

My question was "Are the early orders will be shipped sooner than Q3?"

For you want to know but not want to load the online service..  we can stop refresh the order page for a while.

They must be working very hard.

From Prusa :

We expect the first printers to be shipped in Q3 but I don't have any update of your order yet. We will send you an email with the payment request for the second payment as soon as we know when your printer will be prepared for shipment.

Hopefully soon they will start to talk about the other options and modifications. Maybe even a look as to where they see this technology going.

My guess here, if they're expecting to "ship in Q3", I would personally expect that to be near the end of Q3. Since we're near the end of Q1, I wouldn't expect much info on options, mods, and pricing thereof for at least 2 more months.

IF we are two months away, they never should have been taking pre-orders 3+ months ago.  It was too quick following the Prusa farm announcement anyways.  I'm thinking that the announced when they did to keep people from buying other 3D printers for Christmas...  A nine month lead time or more for electronics is crazy.  Hell, it's a race now between my deposits on the Prusa and the Ineos Grenadier to see which one comes first.....

RE: Original Prusa XL is out!

9 months is nothing. I'm getting estimates of 12-16 months lead time on parts where I work -- fairly run of the mill server rack parts. It's only getting worse, not better, and I can't fault Prusa at all. Refundable deposit and all that, it cost me nothing to wait and see how it plays out. I view it kind of like a kickstarter - it'll come out eventually and I'll be in line to get mine. I really doubt anything nefarious on Prusa's behalf, and am a bit confounded by anyone who would make that leap right off the bat.

I think that is probably close the the mark and hope you are right.
