RE: Original Prusa XL is out!
I am pretty excited about this one. I have two large printers already with 2 more on the way. I have a SEEUCNC and the XL (when it ships) on the way. My Anycubic Chiron and Predators are both well used.

Can someone point me into the direction of where one can get that song from that starts playing at 01:35 ?
According to Shazam it appears to be "Intro - Bobby Kalman" but so far, any attempt in getting my hands on the song have linked to an Apple Music subscription I do not care for even in the slightest 😑
RE: Original Prusa XL is out!
I did my pre-order but now wondering if it will be worth it. Not a lot of actual tangible deep details. Massive cool new features and tech. Big concerns, sure it is suppose to be fast. Sure it can do a lot of tool changes with little wear. though a concern from that info is how many tool changes COULD be required in a project and at what time cost if there are massive changes required. Yes I know it depends on many parameters. So that leads me to what software will be used? Why can't we play with the software and check those theoretical things out in the slicing. I would hate to see a complex support required print that takes normally 4 days turn into 10+ days. Will the software say how many tool changes will be performed? If they say the tool changer can do a 1,000,000 tool changes and 1 project requires 900,00 well not a lot of math here without more details. That won't last unless you do small simple items. That would defeat the larger build size.

I do not think your concerns will be a reality. A local colleague built the E3 tool changer and has been using it for 6 months with no issues. He print plaques and parts for gifts for Soldiers. It is a must to have multicolor prints. He uses the 4 head changer all of the time. He has ordered the Prusa XL also to use side by side with the e3D.
As for the software, I would contact Prusa by email and ask. I suspect it will use Slicer and they are probably perfecting it as we type.

RE:
Why do you want 90000 or more for each print ?
In theory there cannot be more than 9600 in 0.15mm with 5 tools.
360 mm / 0.15mm x 4(toolchange) = 9600 toolchange max.
1.000.000 / 9600 = 104 print without incident witch toolchanger.
RE: Original Prusa XL is out!
Onishin I think your math is based on faulty assumptions. Given a max print height of 360mm and a conservative print height of 0.1 (when it should be able to print finer as current printers can), then that is 3600 layers, times that by 4 gives 14400 tool changes. Print at a 0.05 height (if you were insane for some reason lol) and the number doubles. While not 90,000 its still significantly higher than 9600.
Not that I'm worried, I'm still getting one, although a more modest 2 head version as personally I'm more interested in mixing different nozzle sizes. I like the possibility of 0.4 for the exterior perimeters and 0.6 or 0.8 for internal and infill.
RE: Original Prusa XL is out!
I am still curious where the 1,000,000 tool changes comes from. Either way, I think that number would be higher with more tool heads. Either way, it is all conjecture until we see the mechanism.

RE: Original Prusa XL is out!
I think the people who have kindly replied to my theoretical question may have missed what I was guessing at.
I mentioned parameters were not know to me (relating to the section question of which software and can wee see it to actually know the answer i was seeking). While some pointed out some numbers again parameters were not know nor were they all known or included. What if you are using water soluble supports bot only at the contact points and the support material in between regular supports. Many more tool changes involved and then add colours. I never said an actual verified number of changes nor what number could be done. Prusa has not given any numbers to relate to only a single number of changes with out details ie was it a single colour, did it require supports, etc. I am getting one. I have put my MK3S though a lot of hours just looking for more details as it is not a inexpensive hobby tool. I love the idea/tech of the tool changer. I know there are so many incredibly smart and helpful people here is which is why I asked. Thanks
RE: Original Prusa XL is out!
Chuck, can you share your Prusa slicer profile for the Chiron? (or are you using Cura or other?) I don't see it in 2.4 slicer. There's other models, but not the Chiron. I got one and test printing right now. Its such a huge cost savings over the XL, not sure I can justify the XL!
Thanks!

RE: Original Prusa XL is out!
Change of idea. I was thrilled with the news of the new Prusa XL and immediately joined the pre-order list. But ... actually, size is an interesting feature of the printer but what caught my attention the most is the new CoreXY design. I thought that design would enhance the impression of the models enough to be worth it. But I have become convinced that there is a huge limitation in FDM printing. No matter how much the CoreXY design improves, there will always be a limitation on fusion filament printing. I have seen models made with resin printing using SLA or MSLA or DLP technology and I think it will be a long time before an FDM printer reaches such quality. In addition to the problem for me to place a printer of that size (my God, that height !!) in my work area.So the idea of getting a 3D printer that uses resin as a printing material has begun to tempt me. Yes, it is a sudden change, maybe something stupid. But keeping the MK3s and adding an MSLA printer is ... more and more convincing me.
But is the SL1s good enough to go for it? There is so much difference in quality that it is worth paying 8 or 10 times more than for a photon, a Mars pick or any of that line?
And will it be possible to divert the money given in the preorder of the XL for a SL1s?
Anyway, I'll give this more thought. Or I'll wait to see what 2022 holds in terms of printers.
Sorry for my poor English. I try to do my best.

-very true.
But the same goes for other types of 3D printing. For example, there's no multicolor resin printer (so much detail, but only single color). Anyway, FDM still has many advantages, so it really depends on what kind of prints we make.
From what I've seen so far, I like Prusa XL a lot. I think it is (will be) the most complete FDM desktop 3D printer on the market. And price is set accordingly, because nothing can compete with it.
Lucky me: I don't need it. As strange it might sound, even I admire the technical achievement, I don't even wish it. I think one needs to be VERY enthusiastic to justify the XL expense for hobby use only.
Just sharing my thoughts...

Yes! I do not doubt it. But perhaps it is not enough not to consider that change of course.

RE: Original Prusa XL is out!
I'm not certain, but, I'm pretty "late" to preorder I suppose (23-Nov-2021), but, I'm hoping these start shipping Q2 instead of Q3. I sold my Ender 3 as I wasn't using it much, but, I have a ton of things I want to print. I felt like the XL was going to give me everything I wanted, with some of the lowest amount of problems and hassle. Probably not quite "plug and play", but, a much better experience than with my E3.
For final printed quality, I think resin can't be beat in some areas, but if you spend some time on finishing with FDM prints, you can get basically anything you want.
RE:
I was able to order mine less than 24 hours after they opened up sales, on 11/19/2021. They even had to do something to my account so I could put the XL in my shopping cart.
RE: Original Prusa XL is out!
You said "have a SEEUCNC", are you sure that's not SEEMECNC?

it is. That is a typo.

RE: Original Prusa XL is out!
If this were a printer from any one else it would be $8-10k. An Ultimaker s5 is what, $6k? The Pro version is 10K.
(Note to Prusa, a filament drier - or at least plans- would be cool, and needed for some materials when printing for days…)
A lot of the printers in that price range and even in the XL's price range would come with enclosures and filtration. Judging by how expensive enclosures are for the MK, a part of the price on those other models is for the full professional looking package. Flashforge has a fully enclosed dual extruder pro series at roughly the same price.
RE: Original Prusa XL is out!
Name one. I have loved and have not seen a single printer from a reputable company that includes an enclosure, filtration, and tool changer. The FlashForge is ok but is not the class on an XL.

I thought the enclosure on the XL was an add-on from what I've heard. Why are people thinking it was included?
