RE: Original Prusa XL is out!

Well, in features say:
Printer dimensions: 80×80×90* cm (31.49’’ ×31.49’’× 35.43’’)* including side spoolholders and top enclosure
Sorry for my poor English. I try to do my best.
RE: Original Prusa XL is out!
I got the info that the outer dimensions are not finalised yet, but I should expect something like width: 50cm, depth: 60cm, height: 70cm. Quite large. 🙁
RE: Original Prusa XL is out!
...that was before they updated the features list with the 80x80x90. A depth of 80 will make me cancel my pre-order. 🙁
RE: Original Prusa XL is out!
It is a big printer. It is gonna take a bigger table than a Ikea Lack.

I currently have a build volume of 30x30x30cm with a very nice from factor and don't get why the XL could be twice as deep as the usable build plate depth. That sounds disproportional to me.
And I never considered Ikea to sell furniture. I only buy consumables from Ikea like candles and stuff. 🙂

If these are the dimensions of the printer this makes a super easy choice for me. It's simply too big for my workbench.
I was super excited when I saw this and thought even though this is just for personal use justifying that much money for a toy could be fun. But I'm don't want to have to buy or set up a whole new place to put a printer.

RE: Original Prusa XL is out!
Simple answer. Read through the features and the answer is self-evident. The first is the tool changer. The second is two power supplies.

Thanks for you trying to shed some light onto the dimensions. Thanks for your precious time.
RE:
Spool 3kg = 12cm
Needing 80cm doesn't seem disproportionate to me.
We do not put 5 spools of 3 kg in a shoebox
50cm + 12 cm + 12cm = 74cm
60cmx60cm will surely be sufficient to place the printer on support.
RE: Original Prusa XL is out!

That’s right. I understand what could add up to the given width and that we probably need less space with less spools of filament.
But that is true for every box-shaped device. If you decide to attach optional things to the sides… it takes up more space. The minimal outer dimensions would be interesting.
Car manufacturers do not state a vehicle length of >10m for a sedan because you could opt to tow a trailer… 🙂
RE: Original Prusa XL is out!
True.
The lack table is 55 cm x 51 cm (21 inches x 21) inches on the surface. The new printer is 80cm x 80 cm (31 inches x 31 inches). Heck, a 3-foot square surface (91 cm) is not that large and will give ample space. I think Prusa said it best in the video. The printer size and noise is probably not something you are going to use in you bed room.

I agree !
But you know many user printer 3D FFF not use spool filament ?
1.) For regular use prusa XL, you are need spool filament.
2.) Prusa need include gibet on dimension. Even if it's an accessory
Considering how the filament goes to the print head. It will be easy to make a system to put them on top
Yes, it would be interesting to have the dimensions of the cube on the ground.
RE: Original Prusa XL is out!
It is common for users not to use the attached spool holders. I for one have made my own for all of my printers.

You are not common users 🙂
I think more 90% users not use mmu2s or make enclosure use native spool older for prusa mk3s.
Prusa can not sell printer without native spool older.
Personally, I planned to use a broomstick to hang my spools (mmu2s or XL)
RE: Original Prusa XL is out!
I disagree. I am not that out fo the ordinary.
Spool holders are one of the top projects folks print as soon as they get a printer. Also, enclosures are also a common project for many users. A lot of filaments require an enclosure to successfully print.

A simple spool holder for the Mini, which I have been using successfully for a long time. Also use a similar construction on the MK3, but with a sufficiently dimensioned buffer zone to prevent filament overlaps.
(Mini)
(Mk3 with MMU2S)

RE: Original Prusa XL is out!
Very nice design. I like using bearings. I use a modified filler spool holder.

Very true, but it's going to get to the point for me, on where does it end..lol. The way I just finished our basement and my modding room with my workbenches, having to get rid of something to then get a work bench that is now much deeper and larger than anything else in the room just seems like it's going to be a never ending thing of me changing stuff or buying new. Now where do I keep the much larger filaments..etc.
I COULD however probably put this all the way at the end of my huge Ikea Galant desk. Right at the end and keep my current setup with the mk3s... I really never thought about putting the printer there until I started typing this out.. so I could measure tonight and possibly get my hopes up again, lol 🙂
I do think this is kick ass printer. I can't wait till they start shipping out and we see reviews/people putting them together...etc.
