Inconsistent Layer Allignment (wavy wall surface)

Wondering if anyone has had this issue with their XL Single Tool and had sugestions on how to fix it. On all my prints that have vertical or near vertical walls the surface is wavy.

I attached an image of a recent print (all my prints have this issue). In the image you can see the surface has lines / humps and if you run your finder down it, you can feel the wavy-ness of it. Also, at the top part of the print you can see it actually printed how I expect it to print. It is a completely different color and if you run your finger down that part it is smooth.

I don't have this issue on any of my MK4's so wondering if it is just something I need to adjust with the XL? I know people with multiple tool heads have layer issues and some of them solve it with greasing bolts or something. However since I just have a single toolhead nothing should be moving, right?

This issue happens with input shaper and no input shaper. It happens when printing one object or a bed of objects. It almost looks like a pattern too, like every 10-20 layers it gets slightly out of allignment and prints a hump/wave for a few layers then repeats.

Attaching a file is not working. Here is the photo:

Looks like a typical lead screw issue to me. The fact that the pattern repeats hints at a buildup of resistance in the z axis. Check if it is bent or not installed perfectly straight. An easy way to do it is filming the top bearing holders while driving through the full z range. They should not significantly move. Also make sure your bed is parallel to the xy plane (this is part of the build/calibration procedure).
This topic has been covered several times already, both for XL and other printers.

I didn't even think of that! Yes, now that you mention it the symptom definately fits. It does make a bunch of noise when the bed goes up and down. I bet this is also related to my print quality.

I'll start investigating further!

I had a similar issue, but worse than that...turns out I installed the z axis motors backward, ie left should have been on the right side and vice versa....something to check

RE:

Just to close this out. It was infact a lead screw issue. The screw on the left side was bent. More specifically, the threaded rod was inserted in the motor at an angle. This caused a wobble. Support shipped a new motor/screw combo and after installing and printing I am happy to report the wavy surface is no more!
