RE: Any info on the Prusa XL?

I really hoped we would be able to order soon, waiting for a chance to place the order and hope to not be the last one on the list ^^'

The benefit to being later on the list is letting others work out the kinks.

At this rate we’re not gonna see any printers until late summer. It’s a 2022 Christmas present probably. At best.

In the wake of competitors catching up and overtaking Prusa, I don’t think Prusa can afford _not_ to announce something new on Black Friday (maybe Jo was already eyeing this date when he said that the new printer will be announced on „Friday“).

The very least they‘d have to offer imho would be the upgrade of the Mk3S+ with the 32bit board of the mini. XL would be even better ofc 🙂

I do not think anyone is overtaking Prusa at this time.  At any rate, they will announce it when it is more ready.

If it really does include automatic tool changing, as is alleged, then getting that to work smoothly may take some time.

I am curious since they often cite the supply chain as the reason for delay, yet they were able to create/ship the manufacturing cell, which I assume is the same supply chain.

I suspect that is a smaller group.

With Trilab now being part of Prusa, will that mean their bowden/direct extruder print head will be available in the XL? 🙂

RE: Any info on the Prusa XL?

From below, Creality (and other Chinese manufacturers) are improving on both quality and speed, while above Voron and Rat-Rig are setting new standards in the rumored price ballpark of the XL.

If the XL is not ready yet, Prusa needs to make sure to keep existing offers competitive, in order to keep money flowing into the company, so the XL development can be financed. It'd be as easy as taking the existing 32bit Mini board with its display and slap it onto the Mk3, perhaps coupled with a docking option for a Pi.

In the early days of computing there was a computer manufacturer (can't remember the name currently) who announced a new device, but could not deliver for a long time. Result: Everyone was waiting for the new machine and did not buy the existing products, so eventually the company went bankrupt.

The Mk3S+ may still be a good printer, but 8bit and a monochrome 4-line display are not up-to-date by any means in 2021/2022. And the build volume is also nothing to write home about anymore. Sure - Prusa still has good print quality and top notch support as a positive, but when you can get a decent printer for half or even a third of the price of an Mk3 and upgrade/tune that with better components, you can achieve similar print quality in a bigger build size and still have money to spare.

If I have to tinker anyway to update the Mk3 to current UI and IO standards, I can as well get a significantly cheaper alternative with bigger bed and tinker on that one. Or get a Voron/Rat-Rig kit and assemble a significantly more capable machine. I'm probably not the only one pondering whether to go Voron/Ratrig or Creality instead of an 8bit relic for a grand ...

I am excited to see if Prusa now develops a delta.  I love my Predator.  It works very well.

Don't want to ruin your hopes, but:

However, this time there won’t be a new Original Prusa 3D printer model.

and:

For Prusa Research, the acquisition of Trilab is another step towards expanding its business-oriented portfolio.

It sounds unlikely that you will get a Prusa delta anytime soon.

I did not get this from the news release.  I will agree that it appears there will not be a Prusa Model, but they might start selling the TriLab printers and collaborate on products.  In 2015, Prusa acquired Futur3D.  I suspect it will result in future printer models.  Maybe they will be TriLab named but with assistance from Prusa.

I do not care who sells it as long as it is available to the general public and reliable.

First the resin printers, now deltas. Hope that Prusa does not forget to do some development work on their own …

Mostly agree on that.

Prusa has quite a lot of loyal/happy users, but that doesn't mean that nothing is going on at competition. I like MK3S design and performance, and that's the reason I bough ... a clone (few weeks ago). Yes, is recommended to upgrade few parts, but it's still quite cheaper than original. And let's be honest, performance is the same.
Why am I telling that? Because if there would be "MK4": 32bit board & up-to-date display (both of that doesn't really change the costs), more modern/modular printhead design and better cable management, I would be ready to pay 775€ for original kit.
I appreciate Prusa's support (which I didn't needed), software development and relative high quality parts. And that are the reasons why I would like to stick with Prusa's products in future.
But as said, there are options... For a consumer, market is quite simple: get the most for money.

Just sharing my thoughts.
