Hope is a good thing, but it will not win wars or bets.  Hopefully it comes in October.

Prusa timelines

And October means that we’ll get it sometime mid next year…

For some reason I don’t get the email newsletters. They don’t end up in my spam folder.  I just don’t get them.  PRusa IT has worked with me a couple of times, and maybe one notification gets through, but radio silence after that.  I don’t know why.  Sign up again, same thing.  Someone please post here when they are announced, after you get on the list 😉 , so that I know what is going on.  My mini was months later than it would have been if I had gotten the emails.

Unless you are one for the first, then it will be February.

forecast of the Prusa XL specs

No info on release date, but here is a collection of dropped hints as to what the Prusa XL may actually be:  https://all3dp.com/1/original-prusa-xl-what-to-expect/

size and speed

The Prusa XL will have competition from some other large format 3D printers that didn't exist a year ago, and so I hope it 1. is larger than the 400mm dimensions in the forecast, and 2. is extremely fast.  That's because the competition is up to 500mmx500mmx500mm, and able to do a decent benchie in just 5.5 minutes.

I doubt it will be larger than 400, but it might be faster.  Ithas something over any of the others on the market.  It will be a Prusa and has their support.  No one else comes close in my book.

Alternatives/Competitors

The Rat Rig V-Core 3 and 3-point CoreXY designs (eg HevORT) have caught my eye recently.

https://v-core.ratrig.com/

The VzBot has been doing very impressive speed runs on youtube.

The Blackbox might be the closest competitor with tool changing ability. (obviously sight unseen) (are the others?)

I have following the hints and reports fairly religiously and a heated chamber chamber has not been reported.   Swap able heads has not been reported unless that would be equivalent to a tool changer.  I do not see a continuous belt but who knows for sure.

RE: alternatives for those with immediate needs that can't wait

In February I was in the same boat as you, so I scoured the marketplace to see what was available, and I listed everything I found in this thread:  https://forum.prusa3d.com/forum/original-prusa-i3-mk3s-mk3-general-discussion-announcements-and-releases/recommendations-for-a-3d-printer-with-build-area-of-400x400mm-or-greater/   Also, some posters were kind enough to post some additional suggestions, so it became a kind of collection point.  Feel free to extend it.

I had not heard of the vzbot though, because Vzbot did not debut until after I did my market survey, so thank you Straylit for making us aware of it.  Not sure how big VZbot is, but at least on the face of it, Vzbot sounds like it's worth looking into.

XL automated print farm.

I really interested to see the automatic print farm based on the XL. The said they were going to show that in October.  I don't know how it will compare with the completion.  https://www.mosaicmfg.com/products/array.   This looks really interesting for my business, as this is their first 3d printer I'm not sure about reliability.  But it is super cool!

Hmmmm .... interesting.

Looks like they are doing the Z axis by elevating the print bed (ala Ultimaker), as opposed to elevating the extruder.

not XL

Prusa already said this was not the “XL”.  It is a core xy printer but not the XL.

This item on their Automated Farm System appeared today in Fabbaloo's 3d Printing Newsletter

Oops.  I  jumped the gun.  The good news though is that the real Prusa XL will apparently be bigger and have an automatic tool changer ( https://all3dp.com/4/prusa-unveils-automated-farm-system/ ):

What could be exciting to many regular consumers is the peek the AFS gives them at Prusa Research’s new CoreXY technology. Prusa has been teasing for some time that their Dubai reveal will include technology “based on the Prusa XL” – an upcoming Original Prusa CoreXY 3D printer with integrated tool changing expected to cost somewhere between $1,200 and $1,500.

anouncement.

I read it the same way the first time.  My heart dropped.  That is why I read it 4-5 more times.  I even asked my wife to confirm my understanding.
